How To Find The Right Gym For You
One of the best perks of being a college student is having access to dozens of programs + facilities [like your rec center, intramurals, + your CHAARG Chapter ; )] — that you otherwise wouldn’t have. So during breaks away from school or as a college grad, you may feel lost without the convenience of your school’s gym. It’s up to you to find a new solution, but with the vast number of choices + types of gyms it can be confusing! Luckily, that’s where we come in ; ). Here’s a couple of tips to help you find the perfect gym for you:
#1] IF YOU LOVE DOING A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING //
Opt for a *traditional* gym. If one day you feel like lifting weights, the next you feel like doing sprint intervals on the tread, + some days you want to play basketball — the traditional gym suits you best. This is a cross-trainer’s paradise + there’s the possibility to do a completely different workout every day! This is also your best option for participating in a CHAARG FitPlan ; ).
#2] IF YOU’RE ALL ABOUT GROUP FITNESS CLASSES //
Search for studios that specialize in group fitness. From Zumba, TRX, to cycling — there are tons of different classes. Whether you’re into a specific class you tried through your CHAARG chapter or love a variety, group fitness studios are everywhere + usually let you try a class or two before buying a package!
#3] IF YOU’RE A DIEHARD YOGI //
A yoga studio is your calling. There are so many different types of yoga [Bikram, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, etc.] + no two studios are alike, so have fun + try out a variety of locations! Search for well-liked studios in your area — or better yet, ask a yoga-lovin’ friend what her fav studio is ; ). Most studios offer a *drop-in* class at a discounted rate — try one of these before making a commitment!
#4] IF YOU LOVE THE COMPETITION //
Sign up for CrossFit! There are CrossFit gyms in cities all across the nation + anyone can do CrossFit, despite what you may have heard in the past. CrossFit is all about what you put into it + if you love competing against the clock, working to increase your weight or reps overtime — a CrossFit gym is the gym for you. In addition to their scheduled WODs [workout of the day], CrossFit gyms also offer *open gym* time for members to work on whatever they’d like, keeping your options open beyond their schedule.
#5] IF YOU LIKE TO SWEAT IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME //
Invest in a couple sets of dumbbells + a jump rope to create a gym in your basement, garage, or backyard! You don’t have to belong to a gym to get fit — have you seen some of the amazing results from the #CHAARGBOOTYCAMP?! Every sweat sesh from that FitPlan could be completed at home, as well as several other CHAARG workouts. Use our guide to create your own bodyweight workout, or browse through the SWEAT category #OnTheBlog + choose your fav!
#6] IF RUNNING IS YOUR THING //
Get out there + hit the pavement — no gym needed. All you need are your legs [+ maybe your fav fitness tracker] ++ you can complete this sweat sesh anywhere + during all times of the year — yes, even in the chill of winter + summer heat! Get out there + #runCHAARG!
