// THE MOMENT //
The moment you knew you wanted to start a CHAARG chapter at your university… At a weekly event during my second year as a member of Pitt CHAARG. At the time I was serving as one of the event coordinators + we had an instructor cancel on us… we had to figure out a *Plan B* ++ FAST. We ended up having the former Ambassador’s boyfriend [now a professional Crossfitter ; ) ] lead us through a Crossfit workout. We were broken into teams + each team did a *crazy* set of stair sprints while everybody else had to hold a wall sit [for almost 10 minutes!]. I was in the last team + by the time it was my turn to sprint, I was exhausted. I sprinted as fast as I could + I was shocked at how fast I could move! On my way back down the stairs, I saw a girl on my team struggling to climb the stairs. Her running slowed to a walk + eventually she just sat on the stairs tearful + out of breath. I could have kept running but instead I slowed down + cheered her on. She said, “I don’t think I can finish this”, but she did! We finished it TOGETHER. I don’t think she knows it, but she changed my life. She made me realize that it’s not about how fast we reach our goals, It’s about who we reach them with.
My passion for health + fitness was ignited when… I danced pretty seriously since I was a kid, until I was 16. I developed an eating disorder in order to get to the *next level*. Six months after I joined a news company, I suffered a back injury + basically wasn’t able to walk pain-free for an entire year. I had to stop dancing entirely + for a while, I lost sight of who I was. I had completely lost my identity. Though it was challenging at the time, I look at it now as a blessing because if not for that injury, I would never have learned to appreciate the magnitude of what my body is capable of achieving. I started yoga first to heal my back + then it became a way of life. From then on, loving my body was my daily mission!
// EAT //
Favorite Meal… I’m known around campus as *Pizza Queen* because you can pretty much expect to see me eating pizza anywhere + at any time of day [or night…]. Seriously — I ate pizza at least 5x a week my fall semester sophomore year. Since then, I’d like to think I’ve found a better sense of balance, but I still love to get a little pizza fix every now + then.
Favorite Indulgence… CHOCOLATE. Any combination of chocolate + peanut butter or chocolate + raspberry — you can pretty much guarantee I won’t share even a bite.
// SWEAT //
If you could work out with anyone dead or alive, what workout would you do + who would you work out with? My amazing, gorgeous + brilliant goddess of a yoga teacher, Kim Mackie. I would do a power vinyasa flow to sweat out all my worries + feel alive from the inside out!
// INSPIRE //
My passion is… Invigorating girls to embrace a healthy + active lifestyle + watching them grow + transform into liberated women who LOVE themselves.
I am #inCHAARG because… I’m proud of where my body has taken me + I’m not ashamed of my past. I strive to make each day my best day ever. I have an inclination for rebellion + adventure + I am a free spirited wanderer who wants to explore the entire world — I need a healthy mind, body + spirit to do so ; ). Oh + of course — because I LOVE [there’s really not a word strong enough for the depth of my love] all of the incredible CHAARG girls I have met along the way! <3
// LIVE //
3 words to describe you are… Passionate, Adventurous + Fiery.
Fun Fact… I was afraid of spoons for like, 4 years of my life. I couldn’t even touch a spoon. They just didn’t feel right in my mouth + I wouldn’t go near them. Once, my dad set the table for dinner + put every single spoon + ladle on my plate. I cried + refused to eat dinner that night. [I’ve come a long way since then — I swear!].
