We are so excited to expand to Purdue University this coming August. The CHAARG Chapter will be run by the fitness guru EMILY. Emily joined our community as a VirtCHAARG girl + was extremely active in the community — I still remember always seeing her #sweatsesh tweets right after she received the Sunday Newsletter. Emily is a group fitness instructor at Purdue ++ loves to make people smile + laugh. We were all smiles when we met up from yoga + coffee [ps — she’s extremely flexible]. I cannot wait to see what’s in store for the Purdue CHAARG Chapter!

How did you hear about CHAARG?
One of my good friends told me about how there was a CHAAG Chapter at Indiana University + that CHAARG is definitely something she saw me being apart of. I did some research on the CHAARG website + was completely hooked! I’m extremely lucky that she passed the message on to me about CHAARG or who knows what I would be doing had I not heard of it! Thanks Hannah, couldn’t have done it without you! : )
When was the moment that you knew you had to bring CHAARG to your school?
The moment I knew I had to bring CHAARG to Purdue University was when I found out what CHAARG’s mission was. It’s more than just working out but creating a positive image for girls. Empowering girls has become a strong movement within the past few years + I know CHAARG is an incredible organization that will do just what. When I told girls at Purdue about CHAARG’s mission + what they stand for, they were excited. They wanted CHAARG to come here + that’s what inspired me to apply + try my hardest to start a chapter at Purdue.
What ignited your passion for health + fitness?
There is always one thing that keeps a fire behind me + keeps my passion going for health and fitness – no one can tell me that I can’t do something. In high school I was just the typical student involved with sports, + just average. I was always self-conscious about my weight + just never really felt like I was good enough, so I never pushed past average. But the summer going into my freshman year of high school I started going to a gym + meeting with a trainer. ++ boy, did she show me new limits! I had never felt so confident as I did when lifting + working hard with the “big boys” at the gym. But it wasn’t that my body wasn’t good enough before, it was my attitude. I was the one saying “you can’t do that.” I learned to push past a negative attitude + turn it into a positive attitude. What came along with the positive attitude? A better understand of my body. With educating myself on proper fitness + healthy eating habits, I began to transform into a better me, physically + mentally. And this is what I want to pass on to future CHAARG girls. Health + fitness is a mental + physical transformation, + no one can tell you that you can’t do it.
Aside from working out, what else do you do in your spare time?
Well if I’m not working out I’m sleeping [kidding ; )]. I’m a huge movie fanatic. Whether it’s horror, drama, fiction, non fiction, documentary [yes, I love the discovery channel] or comedy. But if you don’t find me in the movie theatre I’m usually with friends or family. I also love to try new things even if I may be terrified because I know I will regret it later. + I’m a huge shopper, you can ask any of my friends. Mostly buying athletic clothes but every now + then I like to dress up.
What excites you the most about starting a CHAARG chapter at your school?
What excites me the most about starting a CHAARG chapter at Purdue University is that girls are excited about it. It makes me 100% more confident that Purdue is ready for a chapter when girls are excited to get involved + truly love what CHAARG represents. Aside from all the excitement, I’m really ready to show these girls they aren’t alone. CHAARG gives girls an amazing support group to go out + accomplish their goals. ++ chances are, there is another girl who wants to accomplish the exact same goal too.
