From The CHAARG Community: How Liz + Jamie Became Best Friends
Jamie Sullivan + Liz Hanwell are both freshmen at WVU who met through CHAARG + instantly became best friends. After meeting in their CHAARG Small Group, they instantly clicked. They realized they had the same major [+ minor!] as each other, are both from Maryland ++ were in the same lab. Now best friends, they are sharing more about their CHAARG journeys + how this org brought them together —
#1] How did you hear about CHAARG + what made you join?
Liz: I heard about CHAARG through Facebook on our class of 2021 Facebook page. I wanted to join to stay in shape [++ avoid the freshman 15] + meet people of similar interests.
Jamie: I heard about CHAARG through my sister who is currently on the Exec Team at #WVUCHAARG! I also joined to stay in shape + meet new people!
#2] Was it *awkward* when you first starting talking?
Both: Yes, it was really awkward at first! We were both young freshmen who didn’t know many people so we gravitated towards each other though. Once we got past initial *awkwardness* it became easier to talk to each other.
#3] What advice do you have to girls who want to make friends in CHAARG but feel *awkward*?
Liz: Take a chance and get out of your comfort zone, + try to meet new girls! Always smile at strangers — I always think “what’s the worst that can happen?”
Jamie: Always be active, go to spotlights, small groups ++ socials. You’ll never know who you’ll meet if you don’t go!
#4] What’s your favorite way to sweat?
Both: Our favorite workout is a class held at our rec center called Body Pump. Our Treasurer, Renee, invited us to go with her, + we loved it, ++ now we go every week!
Jamie: I would have never tried this if it weren’t for Liz’s encouragement + persistence for me to come.
#5] Favorite quote?
Liz: “Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t do.”
Jamie: “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, + smarter than you think.”
#6] Any advice to new members to get the most out of their membership?
Both: You get what you put into it! Try to go to every event, + be friendly ++ open to new activities, even if its outside of your comfort zone. CHAARG gives the opportunity to meet really amazing people, but you’ll never know if you don’t try!
