5 Healthy Ways To Get Your Chocolate Fix
Valentine’s Day is tomorrow — we love all of YOU. Thank you for making us feel the love not only this weekend, but every day! We wanted to show y’all some love with some amazingly delicious sweets!
Valentine’s Day is usually filled with mystery flavored chocolates + those random chalky hearts [what are those made out of?], so we decided to give you guys some delicious + nutritious Valentine’s treats to treat yourself, a friend, or your Valentine!
All of these recipes include dark chocolate. Did you know that dark chocolate has been proven to actually be good for you? Studies have shown that eating a small amount of dark chocolate two-three times each week can actually help lower blood pressure! Not only that, but it also is full of antioxidants, high in vitamins + minerals! Moral of the story, dark chocolate = perfection.
#1] DARK CHOCO RASPBERRIES
This recipe is one of the simplest, easiest, *why didn’t I think of this before?* recipes. It’s perfect if you just need a hint of something sweet + don’t have a ton of time! ++ this is perfect for Valentine’s Day because they look like hearts! I promise you can’t mess this recipe up ; )
Ingredients — Raspberries + Dark Chocolate Chips
Take 1 raspberry + 1 dark choco chip + place the chip into the hole of the raspberry! That’s it — enjoy!
#2] AVOCADO DARK CHOCOLATE PROTEIN TRUFFLES
Remember how your mom used to slip random healthy things into meals when you were little in hopes you wouldn’t notice? Well — this is kinda like that! One of my favorite things to do is slip protein//random healthy additives into recipes — especially desserts! ++ this recipe has avocado + protein in it [say what?] ++ you cannot taste it whatsoever — #forreal. I made my boyfriend try it [without telling him the ingredients] + had him guess + he had no idea + actually liked them!
Ingredients — 1 small ripe Avocado + 6 oz Dark Chocolate + 1 tsp Vanilla Extract + 2 tbsp Unsweetened Dark Chocolate Cocoa Powder [for rolling] + 2 tsbp Quest Chocolate Protein Powder [for rolling]
1] In microwave safe bowl, melt the 6 oz dark chocolate. Meanwhile, cut + pit the avocado — mash until smooth [with no clumps!].
2] Once the chocolate has melted, combine the melted chocolate + mashed avocado + vanilla extract — mix until smooth [I used a hand mixer for this to get to to a cake like texture]!
3] Next, place the mixture in the refrigerator until firm to the touch [about 30-45 min].
*This mixture is very messy when it is not firm + will make rolling almost impossible! If you need to do this quicker place in the freezer for about 20 minutes.
4] While the mixture is firming, using a fork combine 2 tbsp cocoa powder + 2 tbsp Quest Chocolate Protein Powder into a small bowl.
5] When the mixture has firmed up begin scooping 1-2 tbsp of the mixture into your hands + roll into a ball.
6] After the the mixture has been formed, roll the truffles in the powder mix [this makes it amazing ++ you can choose to put as much or as little as you want].
7] Plate + snap an insta pic + enjoy! Store in an airtight container in the fridge!
*If you want to sneak even more protein into this recipe try adding 1-2 tbsp of protein into the mixture itself — just be sure to mix well!
#3] BLUEBERRY COCOA CLUSTERS
Send help… I. Cannot. Stop. Eating. These. but — I am totally okay with it! These, like the raspberry recipe, is super easy + pretty quick! ++ This recipe is a hit with everyone — my entire family loved them + keep asking me to make more!
Ingredients — 2 cups Blueberries [fresh!] + 1 cup Dark Chocolate Chips + ½ cup Walnuts [chopped!]
1] In a microwave safe bowl, melt 1 cup dark chocolate chips [make sure to stir occasionally so the ones on the bottom do not burn!] 2] Once the chocolate has melted, mix in the blueberries [coating all of the berries evenly!] 3] Cover a baking pan, or plate, with parchment paper + scoop 1 *cluster* onto the pan [mine were a little larger than 1 tbsp each] + top the cluster with walnuts. You can use any kind of nuts — walnuts are just my fav! : )
4] Place in the freezer for 15-20 minutes!
5] Run to the fridge + shove the first one in your mouth as fast as possible + don’t share + enjoy ; ) [just kidding… #sharingiscaring]
#4] DARK CHOCOLATE PROTEIN MUFFINS
I made this recipe a while back on my blog + became obsessed with them! ++ I told y’all I like making protein filled treats; ) These would be perfect to wrap up in a box with a bow + a cute card to give to a friend for V-day!
Ingredients – 1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder + 1/4 cup Egg Whites + 1/4 cup Plain Non-Fat Greek Yogurt + 1/4 cup Almond Meal + 1 tbsp Dark Chocolate Cocoa Powder + 1/3 cup Dark Chocolate Chips + 1 tsp Vanilla Extract + 1 tsp Honey
1] Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2] In a medium sized mixing bowl combine wet ingredients — mix well!
3] Next, mix in dry ingredients — mix well!
4] Place 1 large tbsp of mixture into a greased muffin tin [this recipe makes enough to make 6 muffins].
4] Bake for 15 minutes + share with all your girls!
#5] A BITE [OR BAR ; )] OF PURE CHOCOLATE
There are few things a CHAARG girl loves more than chocolate + a nice warm cup o’coffee, when you combine them *magic happens*! YOU GUYS — you NEED to try Pure 7’s espresso flavored dark chocolate! The lightly sweetened dark chocolate has crushed coffee beans stirred into the bar. The dark chocolate + coffee combo has an amazingly smooth + rich flavor. This is a V-Day must have — pair it with your morning coffee, save it for an afternoon treat, or [for those of you of age ; )] pour yourself a nice glass of red + indulge!
