Alex’s CHAARG Journey: The Scale Is A Liar
Also known as mazzurco_inCHAARG ; ) I think everyone can agree that this girl was one of the most [if not THE most] active + supportive bootycamper [lol] throughout this FitPlan. Not mention — she designed the entire branding of the CHAARG BOOTY CAMP. At first, I didn’t want to pick Alex because I didn’t want to come off as “unfair” since she is a Designtern — but I thought, you know what, she DESERVES it. She busted her butt every day + constantly posted on instagram, as well as made sure to encourage other girls on instagram as well [ah, the love that’s been spreading through the #inCHAARG instagram community has been incredible!].

I was that skinny runner girl in high school with just enough muscle to do a back handspring. I had never weighed over 110 lbs in my life, I had actually gone through some difficult times with stomach ulcers, kidney stones, acid reflux, horrible anxiety, + a condition called Neurocardiogenic Syncope. I was down to 95 lbs at one point, my clothes were falling off of me, I was depressed + having panic attacks. I ended up being put on a cocktail of prescriptions [11 a day] + realized when I was going off to college that I no longer wanted to be putting all of those chemicals into my body. So I stopped.
I went to Miami University + by the start of junior year I had gained almost 20 lbs, worked out maybe once a month, + my clothes were not fitting. I remember my mom saying, “Ha now I know why you have so many yoga pants because they are stretchy!” I was mortified + I felt awful – sluggish, anxiety through the roof, + bloated. I ended up getting really sick + had to go to the health center, the nurse took my blood pressure + it was 136//96 – not good. I was told to come back for a month, twice a week, to have it checked + it didn’t get any better. I was referred to a cardiologist who said, “You’re out of shape!”. Which I knew this, but I could still run a mile! I left his office upset, I knew that this couldn’t be the explanation, but I had to try something.
Day 1 was shortly after Christmas 2013 – I did hip hop abs with my mom for 45 minutes. This went on for 50 days straight + I lost 15lbs in that time. I meal prepped, I lifted a little, did exercise classes at the rec, + stopped the college binge drinking thing [I’m a bartender + the lifestyle associated with the job is certainly not a healthy one]. I have continued my journey + path to success for almost two years, completed two Tough Mudders [signed up for a third!] + would like to run a half + compete in a figure competition this fall.
I want to let ladies know that my journey started with weight loss + a number + that number was way too important for a while.
My weight has fluctuated + or – 5 lbs over the last two years consistently. I gained almost 5 while in Paris – life is short eat the baguette + cheese – enjoy good food + create a balanced life in all aspects whether it is fitness, work, or play. Most of all be happy, do good things, + work hard – that is success.

After a 12 hour work day I thought I was going up run 3 miles, then I met this man who told me he was not only competing in soccer BUT the marathon in the Cleveland Gay Games this weekend (his goal is 6:50 miles and finish top 5) I was inspired and motivated because I want to do a half this fall so I doubled my mileage (6 miles in an hour run) — 1 mile in (7:40) I did the math and realized I could do 7 miles in the hour — I have never run more than 5 miles without stopping in my life.
OFFICIAL BOOTY CAMP RESULTS — in 6 weeks I went from 113.6 + 18% body fat to 115.5 + 16.9% body fat — that means I gained two pounds but lost 1% body fat.
LADIES THE SCALE IS A LIAR — our weight fluctuates daily to begin with. I have more definition and pretty much completed my #fitgoal of getting my abs back! I completed all 30 #CHAARGBOOTYCAMP workouts with the #BOOTYBURN + added in extra things//did my own workouts on the weekends. It is important to be consistent + if the last 6 weeks taught me anything it would the that — if it doesn’t challenge you it won’t change you! I did yoga + jump roped + other things I would never normally do, but it is important to change your workouts to surprise your body!

So continue to share your journey, even though the CHAARG BOOTY CAMP is over, our health + fitness journey is not. I cannot wait for this upcoming semester, the party is just gettin’ started!
