1] HIKING // SMOKY MOUNTAINS, TENNESSEE
Hiking is very well-known out west, but you can easily find great views all over the country! The Smoky Mountains offer incredible mountain views with some resistance to your climb. Centrally located, this can be a great road trip. When driving long distances, make sure you prepare for your hike by take period stretch breaks to avoid swelling in the legs.
2] WATER SPORTS // SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS
You can do water sports like stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkeling, + kiteboarding nearly anywhere during the summer, but South Padre Island, Texas offers a slightly different southern experience at an affordable price.
3] SKIING // LAKE GENEVA, WISCONSIN
Again, you don’t have to go way east or west to experience snow sports. Some resorts even offer skiing + snowboarding lessons in addition to sledding ++ skating. If you don’t want to wait until winter to explore Wisconsin, you can check out Wisconsin Dells for a variety of active recreation from high ropes courses to bowfishing.
4] SANDBOARDING // GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK IN MOSCA, COLORADO
Instead of snow you can sandboard in Colorado! If you love snowboarding or surfing, this is a cool alternative to try out in the summer + will make you feel like you’re in the Sahara Desert!
5] CYCLING // PORTLAND, OREGON
Portland is a fitness haven where you can enjoy nearly any type of outdoor recreation, but it’s especially great for cyclists. Forest Park is one of many spectacular biking paths where you can also find runners, hikers, ++ equestrians. The Columbia River Gorge is a car-free blacktop + the Spring Water Corridor is a 21-mile path built along a former Colorado railway.
6] WANDERLUST RETREAT // BONDVILLE, VERMONT

To make your #FitCation even better, buy your own groceries to cook your own meals. Not only will you save money, but you’ll be able to try the local fare in an authentic way. Airbnbs are another great way to save some cash to ensure you’re making the most of your time outdoors + not spending unnecessary funds on your hotel room. There are endless outdoor recreational activities, but you can always bring your workouts outside anywhere you go this summer — #SummerOfSweat.
