We are CHAARG girls + we bond over exercise + working out. We love the feeling of the sweat dripping down our faces after finishing those CHAARG BOOTYCAMP sprints + realizing we have noodle arms the day after a tough lifting sesh. Exercise helps us to be our best + baddest selves, but it’s only one small component of our overall health. Getting in our daily #sweatsesh has countless benefits, but it’s not the cure-all for every speed bump we have to work through. Here are a few situations when exercise just isn’t the solution:
#1] WE TACO’D [++ MARG’D ; )] TOO HARD ON TACO TUESDAY
It’s time we stop punishing ourselves for the food we choose to put into our bodies. Nutrient-dense foods + exercise work awesome as a pair, but unlike PB + J or mac + cheese, the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Even though we’re all guilty of this kind of thinking, exercise should never be a punishment, especially for eating — we can’t magically work out a *bad* diet.That one extra taco, in all of it’s chipotle aioli glory, may have been a reward at the end of a tough work week or a meal shared with a new friend. Leave that taco on Tuesday — slip ups happen ++ they are totally okay! Besides, #treatyoself ; )
#2] WE WANT TO BE AS *CRAZY FIT* AS OUR ROOMMATE
A little healthy competition can push us to reach our goals, ++ what’s more motivating than living with a member of the #6AMcrew?! Maybe your roomie is training for a race at an 8:00 pace + your mile is just under 8:30 [but you just really hate running ; )]. Rather than try to *be the best*, just be the best you — your fitness journey is your own. Let her continue to motivate + inspire you, ++ make sure you congratulate her when she crosses that finish line ; ).
#3] WE’RE DETERMINED TO LOOK HOTTER THAN OUR EX’S NEW GF
Enough with the *revenge body* goals. If a *hot* bod is the sole reason that guy takes you back, is that really someone you want to be with anyways? Whether it’s a real life smokeshow or a model in a magazine, our workouts are not a means to look like someone else. Appreciate the beauty you posses — it’s special + unique + most importantly, it’s yours — so own it!
#4] OUR BODIES DON’T FEEL QUITE RIGHT
Getting sick happens. Injuries + pain happen. Whether we’re just in a bad mood or haven’t slept all week, toughing it out for a workout just for the sake of working out isn’t always the best choice. We can’t *go hard* every single day of the week + there is no shame in taking a rest day. It’s so important to tune into our bodies’ needs — if our bodies say *stop*, we need to stop! That workout will still be there for you to crush tomorrow.
#5] WE AREN’T HAPPY WITH THE NUMBER ON THE SCALE
It’s totally okay to have a healthy weight loss goal, but that shouldn’t be our only reason for working out. Again, exercise should not be a punishment. Just because we put on a few lb’s doesn’t mean we have to go kill ourselves for two hours on the treadmill. ++ weight gain isn’t always a negative thing. Rather than being a slave to the scale, focus on how your body feels. Maybe you ran two more miles than you ever have before or feel confident rockin’ your bikini poolside for the first time since you can remember. Progress doesn’t have to be measured by a number. ++ small victories are still victories!
#6] WE SKIPPED OUT ON A FUN TIME BECAUSE #NODAYSOFF
If today was your last day, would you be happier that you got out for your morning run or that you skipped it for laughing + connecting with close friends at your favorite brunch spot? While we’re not saying to trade TRX classes for happy hours every day, we need to be a little flexible + bring some *fun* into our lives during the week. Our mental health is just as important as our physical health, so say *yes* to yourself every once + awhile, even if that means saying *no* : )
#7] SOMEONE TOLD US WE NEEDED IT
Your body is your own, + only you know it best. No one, NO ONE can tell you what you should do with your body — not the magazines, not your mother, not even that guy on twitter. Do what’s best for you + you alone. ‘Nuff said.
#8] WE’RE NOT HAVING FUN
When we start to dread going to the gym + counting down the number of reps we have until we can walk out the door, we just won’t get much out of our #sweatsesh. As exercise starts to feel more like a chore, our motivation dwindles + maybe even disappears. Not feelin’ that #CHAARGBOOTYCAMP workout? Skip it [++ replace it with something you do like to do instead!]. Whether it’s a new fitness class or a workout out with a fellow CHAARG girl, make your routine enjoyable. ++ if you’re not smiling, stop : )
We love getting our sweat on as much as the next CHAARG girl, but when life hands us lemons, exercise can’t always make that lemonade. We have to maintain a balance in every aspect of our lives, including those countless hours werkin’ hard at the gym. Can you relate? Share a lil’ positivity with us on Insta + tag @CHAARG!
