One of the most amazing things about CHAARG girls is that not two of us are alike — we are a group of 5000+ women with diverse backgrounds + interests. But there is one thing we have in common — we love ta sweat! [Well, most of the time anyway ; )] Even then, we still differ in how we like to move our bodies, + finding your fit is what CHAARG is all about : ). ++ It’s a lot easier to *find your fit* when there are new workouts to try.
Boot Camps are always popular in the group fitness scene, whether outdoors or located in adult jungle gyms [a.k.a. many popular fitness studios ; )]. While the name may be intimidating, boot camps are a great way to challenge your entire body + mind to conquer a fun, new sweat sesh!
WHAT IS IT?
Boot camp targets three aspects of training — cardio, strength, + agility. They are more intense than your average workout, but they are also way more fun since you are always doing different exercises. Boot camp classes were originally military-inspired, but have since evolved to embrace all areas of fitness [even inspiring booty camps!]
HOW IT WORKS
Each class will be set up differently, but there are typically stations or circuits with different exercises. Boot camps often feature calisthenics [bodyweight exercises], which include your pushups, pullups, squats, + more paired with different cardio + agility drills in intervals. Boot camps may focus on power, but they also may focus on endurance.
WHY YOU SHOULD TRY IT
Life is like a boot camp — ya never know whatcha gonna get : ) It’s easy to get in a fitness routine that keeps you from straying to the unknown — whether it be unfamiliar exercises, machines, muscles, or even studios. Boot camps will keep you on your toes + ensure you are keeping your muscles strong + balanced. If you’re sore in unfamiliar places the next day, that’s a sign that you’re not working those muscles regularly!
HOW TO PREPARE FOR CLASS
Rock your fave Fitionista outfit + be prepared ta sweat! Find out more about the studio or the area in which the boot camp is located. Double check if you should bring a water + towel or if those will be available on location. The most important thing is to keep an open mind. Boot camps are to challenge yourself — physically + mentally! If you have any injuries, make sure to let the instructor or coach know beforehand so that they can provide modifications to ensure you are challenge yourself without hurting yourself.
WHERE TO TAKE A CLASS
It’s easy to find new, free sweat seshes almost anywhere, but rest assured your local gym, studio, or rec center will offer some form of boot camp. Sometimes names are spiced up, so check out the class descriptions to determine the challenge you’re actually choosing.
Don’t be afraid of mixing up your workout every once in awhile. Additionally, many boot camps feature partner drills, so bring your buds to sweat with you! Take a sweaty selfie after + tag us on insta @CHAARG : )
