The sun is shining, flowers are blooming + CHAARG girls are ready to hit the outdoors [finally!]. It’s time to switch up your sweat sesh this spring by ditching your repetitive workouts + trying new techniques to build a stronger mind + body. Once your body gets used to the same exercises, you not only lose motivation, but you may plateau. Adventure beyond your comfort zone to find workouts that are exciting + fun to do. It’s time to *feel the burn* this spring + clean your gym repeats : )
VENTURE BEYOND THE REC
Stuck in the same workout rut at the same gym every day? Search for a new gym or fitness studio around your area + compare prices, equipment ++ workouts. Yoga + Pilates studios offer low-impact workouts that challenge your mind + body. CrossFit boxes//gyms offer high-intensity workouts that focus on strength + conditioning. There are also boxing, barre, cycling, or dance classes — the options are endless, ++ many studios offer first-time trials! Besides fitness studios + gyms, the great outdoors is another option to refresh your workout routine. Seek out forest preserves, paths + playgrounds close to campus ++ take your workout outside. Grab a CHAARG friend + find someplace new for your workout.
TRACK YOUR WORKOUTS
The first step in slashing your workout repeats is to record how many reps + sets you do of each move//run//swim. Track the workouts you complete throughout the week [did someone say Fit Journal?]. Make sure you’re always challenging yourself, whether it’s progressively lifting heavier weights or running a little further, challenging your muscles is essential to continuous improvement. It is important to avoid working one muscle repeatedly! By tracking your workouts, you can see what areas you work on the most + the areas you tend to leave out. Give every body part an equal amount of love [try workouts that target many areas, like Full Body Sculpt!]. You can even write down where you worked out, when + for how long. After a couple of days or weeks, you will see your sweat sesh trends — while filling your cute Fit Journal : )
SWITCH IT UP
Out with the old, in with the new! Try out different CHAARG workouts from da blog + try to challenge different muscles each day of the week. Planning out your workouts before you hit the gym will make sure you’re implementing a variety of exercises into your routine. It will also allow your muscles adequate recovery time + prevent you from falling into a boring workout rut! Use a handy calendar + set dates for for new workouts, like swimming or hiking, outside of your comfort zone. Resetting your sweat sesh includes cooldowns + break days! Test out some breathing techniques or yoga stretches to relax your body + mind. Most importantly, know when your body needs a serious cooldown — rest is important!
