As the weather gets warmer + our sweat seshes move to the outdoors, many will turn to their closets ++ desks for rearranging // organizing. Spring cleaning is a traditional rite of passage for this time of year — but let’s not forget to look within alongside our [probably over-stuffed] drawers. Cleansing our mindset + embarking on a *mental reboot* may be exactly what we need this spring in order to gain a fresh perspective + outlook for the upcoming months —
Set a quiet time strictly for yourself to, first + foremost, identify any clutter in the mind. This [seemingly] simple first step can sometimes be the hardest part — but making a conscious effort to think carefully + take your time with the process will allow your thoughts to run smoothly. A few excellent ways to encourage internal reflection are through yoga + meditation practice. Having such an intimate mind // body connection will allow you to learn more about yourself, what’s potentially getting in the way of your goals + clear your mind. You’ll also be able to enjoy some very valuable *me-time* in the process!
TIDY YOUR MIND
In The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, a best-selling book by lifestyle consultant Mari Kondo, she emphasizes the practice of carefully looking through one’s’ possessions + questioning whether or not it sparks joy // brings happiness. Once you’ve figured that out, the next step is simple: If it does not bring joy to your life [or causes stress or unwarranted anxiety] you should gracefully part with it + move on. This lesson does not have to be restricted to material items — take a step back + evaluate your lifestyle // mental habits as well. It may not be easy to rid yourself of bad habits + self-negativity, but it will be well worth it in the long run!
PLAN FOR SUCCESS
Writing down your goals + a making plan of action for this spring [for any type of goal, mental or not] will consistently keep you ahead of the game. Not only will you *liberate* your mind from unnecessary stress by pre-planning, but you’ll also be far more productive ++ motivated throughout the process.
We suggest breaking down your personal goals to cleanse your mind into multiple smaller, achievable steps [Think S.M.A.R.T goals] that can eventually build themselves up to the overarching vision you have. By doing this, you’ll have a consistent feeling of achievement [aka more celebration! ; ) ] that will spur you to keep on pushing yourself. Remember — sometimes it’s best to keep your eyes on the next step, + not the summit.
CHANGE THE MENTAL CONVERSATION
At times, we all have an inner-critic that’s ready to pounce on any given little mistake or insecurity. The nagging, mental rambling often begins at a moments notice — + suddenly our minds are completely cluttered with negativity. It happens to all of us, + you are certainly not alone!
There are so many ways to put this negative self-talk in its place + cleanse our mind of it. One strategy is to imagine what someone you love ++ trust would say to you in this situation. Insert those words of encouragement into your mental conversation to quickly realign your thoughts + expectations. With this, you’re able to transform the conversation into one that’s far more peaceful + reassuring. Also, keep in mind that the CHAARG community will always be here for you as a source of inspiration, motivation, ++ optimism when you need it. : ) A great thing about this community is that many other women are likely going through the same hurdles as you [or maybe have in the past] — + you can always reach out to them for support!
Spring is all about rebirth, reawakening, + embracing new habits. If you’re looking to embrace these ideas, new adventures, + *cleanse* your mindset, remember: it is ultimately you that has the power to alter your thoughts, + not the other way around.
Cleanse your mind ++ cleanse your life.
