There’s a lot going on at this point in the year — the CHAARG FitPlan ending, finishing up fall semester, + the holidays. While these are exciting changes, it’s natural to feel a little drained. When there’s a lot going on there’s one thing we tend to crave the most — simplicity.
Ironically enough, sometimes it may feel like achieving simplicity can only be accomplished with major + complex life changes. Don’t sweat it — there is good news! There are actually several painless steps you can take to simplify your daily life + they really add up. Try these small actions to make a tremendous difference…
1] DONATE ANYTHING YOU HAVEN’T WORN IN A YEAR
If you haven’t worn it in a year, you probably won’t wear it again. Donate unwanted clothing, shoes, purses + jewelry to Goodwill or bring them to a consignment shop to sell. Someone will greatly appreciate your donation + you’ll gain mental clarity because you’re no longer sifting through things you never wear.
2] CLEAN OUT YOUR CUPBOARDS + FRIDGE
That funky bag of trail mix you didn’t like as much as you thought you would? That can of frosting you used once to bake cupcakes for your roommate? It’s time to dispose of any food item that’s been pushed to the back of your cupboard or fridge. Donate non-perishables, give to friends, or compost natural foods that have gone bad.
3] THROW OUT ANY SOCKS OR UNDIES THAT’VE SEEN *BETTER DAYS*
Whether your socks are so stretched out that they bunch up in your shoes, you’ve worn holes in the toes, or the lace in your undies has a tear — it’s time to throw it away. Bootaybag can help you replace your supply ; ).
4] CLEAN OUT YOUR DESK DRAWERS
If your drawers are shoved with old papers, exams, receipts, etc — recycle//toss out what you no longer need. Tip: If it’s at least a year old [or older!], you probably don’t need it anymore!
5] UNSUBSCRIBE FROM UNWANTED EMAILS
So. Many. Emails. From online newsletters, to blogs, to your fav clothing stores — unsubscribe from any email list that you immediately delete anyways [or that tempts you to shop every day!]
6] CLEAR OUT YOUR INBOX [OR AT LEAST TRY]
*Inbox: 0* is definitely #lifegoals of any college student + full-time employee. Chip away at your inbox for a little each day + you’ll get closer to a life less cluttered. ++ This will be much easier to attain + maintain once you unsubscribe from those unwanted emails ; ).
7] DELETE UNUSED APPS OFF YOUR PHONE
There are probably at least 3 or 4 apps you don’t use regularly enough to keep around on your phone. Free up some storage space + battery life by eliminating those apps you thought you’d love, but never use.
8] DON’T BUY UNNECESSARY THINGS
Do you absolutely need a fourth pair of running shoes? Another water bottle or coffee mug? Evaluate if an item is an essential or an impulse purchase. Minimizing your belongings simplifies your life more than you’d think!
9] ELIMINATE COMMITMENTS THAT AREN’T PRIORITY
CHAARG girls love to be involved at school + in their communities. By frequently asking yourself, “Is what I’m doing how I want to be spending my life?”, you’ll have a better pulse on your emotions + true passions. If you dread every second at a student org meeting, feel like you no longer identify with a group of friends, or no longer enjoy a workout you used to love — let it go. It may not be easy, but it will free you from unneeded stress in your life.
10] UNPLUG ONE DAY EVERY WEEK
Take a day to #reCHAARG every week. Leave Facebook, Twitter + Insta alone, + put your phone on *do not disturb*. Be present in the moment.
The little things add up in a major way!
