Whether you’re on-campus or post-grad, it can be difficult to make time for your passions. You’re busy with classes + work, not to mention working out, sleeping, + trying to maintain a social life. While you may be trying to check off all the tasks on your to-do list, whether day-to-day or according to your 5-year plan, ask yourself if you are pursuing your *passions.* What is your passion in life?
This is quite a loaded question if you’re not even sure of your plans for the next year [or month], so instead of setting lofty goals with uncertain time frames, passion projects are a great way to pursue your interests in a meaningful way. They can be big or small + customized to exactly your liking. They are yours, after all!
So what is a passion project? It’s what you do in your free time to escape the rest of your obligations. It is a hobby that provides satisfaction, happiness, + purpose to your day-to-day by contributing something worthwhile to the world. It’s not so much about reaching a certain goal or level of your skill, but growing yourself in a way that *electrifies* you + makes you excited to wake up in the morning.
1] DECREASES STRESS
A passion project reduces stress levels by letting you *exhale* from your typical day-to-day tasks + focus on something you are interested in. Like any hobby, it allows you to relax your mind instead of worrying about your schedule + to-do list.
2] BUILDS YOUR TALENTS + IMPROVES CREATIVITY
Whether it’s writing or painting, the more you practice, the better you become. Except for the occasional writer’s block, it will inspire you + keep the creative juices flowing.
3] ALLOWS YOU TO ENJOY YOUR COMFORTS
After a stressful day or week, a passion project can be what you turn to to indulge — it’s your *me-time* + brings a sense of comfort, kinda like eating your fave chicken noodle soup when you’re sick. Your passion comes from the soul, ++ soul food means something different for everyone ; )
4] ENABLES A TECH DETOX
The more time you spend on your passion project, the less time you have to scroll through your various social feeds. You are more intentional with your free time + use it in ways that are more meaningful. If your passion project is traveling, you will [hopefully!] be too busy seeing the world than worrying about what your crush is posting on his Snap Story.
5] CREATES POTENTIAL SIDE CAREER
With almost any passion project, you have the potential to make some extra cash on the side. Whether it’s being a fitness instructor, tutoring, or selling your crafts online, there are always options to make some money off of your passions if you’re struggling financially. This can always lead to potentially being your own #GirlBoss one day ; )
6] ENABLES YOU TO GIVE BACK BY VOLUNTEERING
You can also use your passions to raise money for a charity that’s important to you, whether it’s organizing events, running for a cause, or actually volunteering with your fave organization. It’s even more fulfilling to pursue a passion project that aligns with your mission!
7] CONNECTS YOU WITH OTHERS
You can meet many new people while pursuing passion projects, often by participating in different clubs. Whether it’s a reading, scrapbooking, or running club [*cough cough* or CHAARG : )], you will be able to connect with others with similar passions + possibly make some of your best friends who simply get you.
8] BUILDS YOUR CONFIDENCE
Above all, passion projects help boost your self-esteem. When you work on your passion project often, you remind yourself that you are living a life with passion + purpose as you continue to work towards your goals based on your personal mission — empowering is an understatement!
While the options for passion projects are endless + can often be combined to really do all of your favorite things, it’s up to you to make it happen + worth your while. As with everything good in life, you get out of it what you put in. If you give your passion project your heart + soul, you’ll reap endless benefits. Share with us your favorite passion projects + tag #inCHAARG so you can inspire the entire community to take CHAARG of their passions : )
