In traditional Western healing, physical ailments are thought to be linked to the emotional barriers we carry around in our day-to-day lives. Our bodies are composed of major nerve centers that direct this flow of energy to keep us goin’. When these energies, called chakras, become blocked, we may struggle with illness, pain, or other symptoms as a result. Is that headache linked to lack of sleep or pre-finals stress? Or maybe your lower back pain is telling you to both strengthen your core + let go of your fears? People have turned to holistic therapies such as Reiki, acupuncture, + healing touch for *thousands* of years. Luckily, you don’t need expensive treatments or special training to keep your energies flowin’ happily ; )
EXPLORING THE HEART CHAKRA
The fourth chakra often tends to become blocked, but is also one of the most important. This is your center for love + compassion [both towards yourself + others!], but it’s easy to let breakups, disappointments, + a lack of self-confidence get in the way. An energy blockage here may result in an uncomfortable feeling of tightness in the chest, caused by asthma or anxiety. You might feel empty + unable to move forward in your life, stuck in one place or fearful of the future, something that most college students have experienced at some point. On the other hand, when the heart chakra is open, you feel energized, ready for new opportunities, + at ease in your ability to forgive // let go. Spring is the perfect time to check in with your heart chakra + find areas where you can improve. Ask yourself: Do I feel loved + cared for? Am I sharing love generously with myself + others, or holding back? Open your heart with these energy-healing tips —
One of the best things you can do for yourself [+ your heart chakra] is to take a step back + focus on what you really want. Are you happy in your current job, major, city, or relationship? If not, listen to your heart + find a solution. Make a vision board of your goals, ask for that raise, buy a plane ticket — pay attention to your own happiness for a change. Listen to your body too, by signing up for your fav spin class, going on a walk // hike with friends, or dancing around your bedroom in your underwear just because you feel like it. When you stop worrying about what’s expected of you + do more of the things that ya love, it’s like a weight being lifted off your chest.
You’re probably no stranger to spring cleaning — from sorting through an endless pile of winter sweaters to dusting, Windexing, and reorganizing everything in between. This time around, consider getting rid of the unwanted negative thoughts in your life, too. Let go of relationships that hold you back or no longer bring you joy + get out from under the covers to spend time with the friends who build you up most. Accept the things you cannot change + practice forgiveness wherever you can because holding onto anger, heartache, + resentment will only hurt more in the long run. After a long, cold winter your mind [+ heart] are ready for a fresh start.
Positive #vibes are contagious — open your heart chakra by practicing unselfish love + finding a sense of purpose. Volunteer at your local hospital, animal shelter, or food bank. Stay an extra hour when your coworker needs to leave early, or buy a small present for a friend // significant other, just because you’re thinking of them. Be generous in the love you give + you’ll never worry about running out.
It’s easy to walk through our days guarded + out of touch with our emotions. Open your heart + reclaim your inner strength by doing what ya love, with the ones ya love. <3
