University of Pittsburgh CHAARG was started just a year ago — I still remember the first time that we visited Pitt! It was my first time in Pittsburgh + I became instantly obsessed [particularly with Hello Bistro + Pittsburgh Popcorn — YUM], but also with all of the girls. It was a unique group because most of the exec team was heavily involved in CrossFit. They were all just so passionate about health + fitness. I am so excited to welcome Joanna as the new Ambassador! It’s been so fun seeing her step up as a leader at Pitt — she started as secretary, then moved to VP Membership, + now she is the Ambassador. She is such a sweet girl + always has a smile on her face. I cannot wait to see what is in store for PITT CHAARG!

How did you hear about CHAARG?
I first learned about CHAARG from the first Ambassador of the #PittCHAARG chapter, Katie Martin. The summer before my junior year Katie approached me about joining her exec team + helping bring the CHAARG movement to Pittsburgh. I was so excited to be given the opportunity to play such a role in an organization like CHAARG. I applied for a position on the exec team immediately! I loved my experience with CHAARG so much that I decided that I wanted to take on the role as the Ambassador + I could not be happier that I did!
The moment I heard the mission statement of CHAARG + the goal to “liberate girls from the elliptical,” I knew that CHAARG was an organization that I wanted to be a part of. I have learned that in college, sometimes the hardest part of living a healthy + active lifestyle is finding someone to do it with you. I love that CHAARG inspires + empowers women to try new things + set goals for themselves + provides college girls with a support system to back them up! CHAARG is exactly what every college girl needs to live a fit lifestyle + I could be more excited to provide Pitt with these opportunities!
What ignited your passion for health + fitness?
Health + fitness have always been a priority of mine that I believed stemmed from an active childhood. I have always loved playing sports, especially volleyball + lacrosse. I have grown to love the team atmosphere + challenging myself mentally + physically. In the past year + a half I discovered an entirely new way to challenge myself + achieve goals I never thought possible for myself through CrossFit. CrossFit has completely revamped my idea of fitness + motivated me to take my own fitness to a higher level. Not only have a grown stronger physically + healthier nutritionally, but I have gained confidence in myself + my ability to help others live healthy + fit lifestyles!
Aside from working out, what else do you do in your spare time?
When I am not hitting the gym or studying at the library, you can usually find me hanging out with my friends or family! I love chillin’ with my friends either watching movies, getting a bite to eat or swimming in the summer! I love reading a good book on the beach with my mom, riding bikes with my dad, hitting the streets of New York with my brother + of course, I can’t forget, playing with my dog!
What excites you the most about being the leader of the CHAARG chapter at your school?
I am most excited about meeting new girls at Pitt that are as enthusiastic about fitness as I am! I want to help make CHAARG a strong community of women that all members know they can turn to for support + encouragement when achieving their fit goals. To know that I have the chance to be a part of that + to be someone that other girls at Pitt can look up to is one of the most rewarding feelings + I cannot wait to get started!
