Whether you’ve been a part of CHAARG for a little or a lot, I’m sure you recognize this face — the face of the leader of OSU CHAARG + also a girl who has had a HUGE impact on the CHAARG Community throughout the years. I met Emelie when I was the Ambassador of CHAARG at OSU [woah — that feels like YEARS ago, + in fact, it was!]. She was the Event Coordinator at the time, + when I decided to expand CHAARG + take on a larger role on the national side, I knew that there would be no one else I would want to lead OSU CHAARG than Emelie. This girl is seriously wonder woman. Her infectious energy + passion for not only health + fitness, but LIFE is contagious. She is the definition of an inspiring leader + although I am so sad that this is her last semester of CHAARG at OSU, I cannot wait to see what’s in store for the OSU CHAARG Chapter this fall! Amazing things are bound to happen! ; )

How did you hear about CHAARG?
I actually heard about CHAARG when it first started up at OSU. Back when it was only 50 girls I received an email from a current member that was in one of my classes + I immediately knew I had to become a part of the organization. After the first event I was hooked. The energy + passion was genuine + I knew this was something I was going to be a part of for life. Here I am, a little over two years later, still completely in awe over CHAARG, + more thankful than ever that I acted on impulse + checked out the organization that was sent in an email.
What ignited your passion for health + fitness?
As far as I can remember I’ve always been a huge fitness junkie. Back when I was in kindergarten I actually bet my Dad that I could score 10 goals in one of my soccer games! I started competing at high levels for soccer + then picked up cross country + track as well. The drive to help my teams win state championships was addicting + I think the people I was fighting for is what really made my initial passion for health + fitness stick. Every time I stepped to the line to race or the field to play soccer, I could feel my energy rise knowing I had a whole crew behind me, counting on my every move. Once I got to college, I still had my passion, but it felt as though it was hibernating for my whole freshman year. It took me a lot of self discovery [I know that sounds so cliche but it’s true!] + truly toning into each workout to get my health + fitness journey back on track. I owe almost all of my “rediscovery phase” to CHAARG. Without every member of CHAARG, I wouldn’t have my “team”. Now when I hit those ruts, I remember that I can’t let my CHAARG girls down + I know with all my heart that in the end I will feel better mentally, physically, + emotionally.
Aside from working out, what else do you do in your spare time?
Almost anyone you ask would say that working out + other heath//fitness activities IS what I do in my spare time, but I in fact do enjoy other things as well ; ). You can usually find me either hanging out with my friends, exploring a new place I’ve always wanted to check out whether that be in Columbus [or anywhere else in the country], or reading a good book in my bed. I actually read from 8 am to 5 pm once! Whoops!
What excites you the most about being the leader of a CHAARG chapter at your school?
Hands down it’s the legacy here. Knowing that CHAARG started up at Ohio State + that I’ve been blessed to lead the organization gives me chills just thinking about! There is just a little extra something knowing that this is the place where it all started. I also absolutely love the energy of my fellow Buckeye CHAARG girls! We have a pretty large group of girls every semester [we had 500+ last fall!] + I love setting a goal to see how many I can personally get to know.
As a veteran CHAARG Ambassador, what advice would you give to girls starting a chapter this fall?
I would give them one simple, but to me the most important, bit of advice — be passionate. Period. If you have a passion for health + fitness then don’t be afraid to express it! Having passion is a major first step to having a successful chapter of CHAARG. It’s the passion that’s addicting to members + it’s what will drive you to be the best leader, member, + friend you can be. There will be times when life seems to throw you a curve ball but if you truly have that passion in CHAARG, then it’ll turn into the part of your life that seems concrete when everything else is out of whack.
What is your favorite CHAARG memory from The Ohio State University?
My favorite CHAARG memory!? That’s like asking me to name every star in the universe! ; ) It really is difficult because there have just been so many! I would probably have to say the CHAARG National Retreat though. I remember being so stressed with a lot of things compiling in my life, but yet again CHAARG saves the day. I remember getting to the retreat + feeling completely at ease. For that weekend I was able to tune out the world + escape into 100% everything I love in life — good food, fun + challenging workouts, + great friends. I was on cloud nine that whole weekend!
