University of Cincinnati CHAARG was the first CHAARG Chapter to lead the expansion process. Amy Nguyen was just a lil’ freshman then + right away took a role as the Treasurer. I could quickly see her enthusiasm for CHAARG — she was constantly bringing up new ideas + challenging old processes. Even to this day, she frequently emails with great ideas. My favorite? #ChaseACHAARGGirl [you’ll find out more about this during runCHAARG ; )] Now a Junior, Amy is ready to take on her second semester as the CHAARG Ambassador. I cannot wait to see what is in store for UC CHAARG!

How did you hear about CHAARG?
Sarah Clem! She is in my sorority + asked me to join her when UC CHAARG first started. I still remember her phone call telling me about CHAARG for the first time! WOW — how things have changed. : )
What ignited your passion for health + fitness?
Fear of the Freshman 15 — the first semester of college I would go to the gym + not really be satisfied with my results of my workout but I didn’t have the knowledge to take it to the next level. I think for so many of us, fitness comes easily with high school sports + then all of a sudden, we no longer have a coach yelling at us + we lose that driving force. It’s a big adjustment. Being a leader in CHAARG + training for my first half marathon pushed me to work every day + stick to my schedule. Eventually it evolved into a passion for my daily sweat. How am I supposed to motivate others if I, myself, am not motivated?
Aside from working out, what else do you do in your spare time?
I am currently co-oping which takes up more time than I would like. Aside from that, I work at a local yoga studio + I am training to become a certified yoga instructor so I practice hot yoga several times a week. I also like to spend time with my sisters + my dad. They are all really active as well. They rock.
What excites you the most about being the leader of the CHAARG Chapter at your university?
Being involved in the best student group on campus. Okay, probably a little biased but I truly believe that what doesn’t challenge you doesn’t change you. I think being a part of a network of active girls really pushes + motivates our members to strive for the change we all need. CHAARG is positive peer pressure at its finest!
What is the most important thing you learned as the Ambassador this past semester at UC?
I have to be outgoing + very organized.
What is your favorite CHAARG memory from University of Cincinnati?
Last fall we had a free yoga info session outside in the middle of campus. There were so many girls that showed up + it was so exciting to see how many girls really were interested in joining. So many people were walking by + learning more about CHAARG. It was an awesome + unique atmosphere. I think it was when I first truly realized the high demand for CHAARG.
