Everyone I know thinks I am a healthy, workout-crazed, broccoli-holic, but I need to set this straight; I have NEVER met a carb I didn’t love. I Netflix binge with the best of them, I procrastinate when I shouldn’t be procrastinating, + sometimes my life gets a little overwhelming. When you’re a senior in college, whose life isn’t insane? I’ve finally learned to balance being a college athlete, an art student student, a campus leader, + working two jobs, but it didn’t come easy. I’ve learned to take the ups + downs in stride. I love to make lists, I love spending time with my friends + maybe putting my paper off to the next day, + most importantly, I realize that all of these things are parts of me; a me that I am wholeheartedly, fully, madly in love with, no matter what. I love everyone and everything in my life; if I don’t love something, I don’t let it into my life. Sometimes that’s a lot easier said than done, but in the end it is so worth it.
I originally joined CHAARG because I saw a group of girls who liked to workout. “I’m a girl and I like to workout”, I remember telling my mom the day I decided to join. But CHAARG has become so much more than that. I see all of these amazing strong women coming out of their shells, learning to love themselves, + helping to build each other up. I joined Capital CHAARG to work out, but I am renewing my membership + I am staying because I am inspired. Every single day.
I’m #InCHAARG because I’m a Boss (Thanks, Kelis)! But actually, I am #InCHAARG because the women in this organization change me (for the better) every single day. I see the women in my chapter, + across the country, doing amazing things, being leaders, staying true to themselves, + building each other up every day (most days a few times, because Insta), + I cannot help but want to push to better myself. CHAARG has changed my life.
I realized being healthy wasn’t just working out. As soon as I realized being healthy was treating myself (mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc.), my life changed. I stopped drinking, I started eating healthy, I kept working out, + I started drinking more water. I realized how much better I could feel and do when I was exhausted, sluggish, and sore. This whole change is still in the works to this day, because I believe “healthy” isn’t a constant; it is a constantly evolving, forward-moving thing to stay in touch with.
CHAARG helps me every day to live my happiest + healthiest life. I can’t even pick a singular point in which I have felt sad, uncomfortable, or anything but happy with this organization. CHAARG has given me a community of women who, no matter what, are always there. Whether they are new friends, old friends, or people I wished to know better, there is always someone who is down for a little sweat sesh, or is down for a donut run (Looking @ you, Hannah + Regan), or wants to just hang out. I have met amazing new friends + gotten to know older ones better, + they are friends who want to help me succeed + meet any goals I may have.
Like carbs, I’ve never met a workout I didn’t like. This being said, I will always be a hammer throwing/weightlifting girl. I learned to throw + powerlift before I learned to drive a car or solve a math equation. I combine the two in a workout sense, because there is no way to separate one from the other. However, outside of those two, yoga helps me to balance my life and keeps me flexible + relaxed in all areas, not just on the mat. Yoga really helps me to stay grounded, focused, + calm, even in some of life’s most stressful situations.
My favorite meal is the kind you eat. No, but seriously. As someone who works out as heavily and consistently as I do, food has become one of the most regular and reliable things in my life. I love to cook for myself, for others, + I love to eat. I’d have to say, for the time being, I am a big fan of anything avocado. Last night, I made avocado jackfruit salad-stuffed avocados and avocado tomato tuna salad. They were awesome and definitely a repeat in the kitchen.
If I could tell every woman on the planet anything, it would be: YOU ARE AMAZING. Literally every single one of you. Help each other, move mountains, + never let a setback get you down. Love each other, love everyone else (Who run the world?), + most importantly LOVE YOURSELF. The golden rule of life is to treat others the way you want to be treated. While I agree with this wholeheartedly, I give you this challenge: while you spread your kindness outward, spread it inward, too. I have yet to meet someone in this org who isn’t caring, kind, + compassionate, so I challenge you to treat yourself the way you would treat others. I know you can do it. <3
My words to live by are written on my mirror, set as the background of my phone, + I repeat them to myself every single day. They come from Dr. Seuss, + they speak for themselves: “You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, and you can steer yourself in any direction you choose!”
