With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s important to think about everything we appreciate in life. Saying thank you is great, but it can start to lose meaning if it’s the only way you’re expressing gratitude. In order to show those around us how much we truly appreciate them, we should be willing to do more to be grateful. Try these 5 things next time you want to thank someone –
1] SEND A THANK YOU NOTE
We all love getting mail – so why not send someone a letter or note? You’ll have fun writing it + they’ll have fun reading it. Write down all of the ways in which you appreciate someone. Don’t hold back here – write it all down! It’s important to show them that you’re taking time to thank them. Sometimes, we don’t see the ways in which we are a positive influence in someone’s life. Hearing these things could turn someone’s day around + help them realize all the good they’re doing.
2] RETURN THE FAVOR
If someone has done something for you, it’s time to ask what you can do for them. Ask if they need help with something – whether it’s about school, work, friends, family, or anything else. Sometimes we don’t realize the help that others can offer us. We may feel bad asking for things due to the fact that we don’t want to feel like a burden or needy. Show the people in your life that you’ll be there for them no matter what.
3] GIVE A SMALL GIFT
This can include something you make [thank you Pinterest!] or a small something you find that makes you think of someone. If you think someone could use a little extra love + appreciation, go out of your way to find something you know they would love. Try paying it forward. This could include picking up someone’s favorite coffee or grabbing a sweet treat to share with them. It doesn’t have to be big or extravagant, but a token of appreciation that will prove how much they mean to you.
4] TELL THEM HOW THEY’RE HELPING YOU
Don’t simply say thank you — say why they’re making things easier for you or what you love most about them. Show them that you pay attention + acknowledge all of the great things they do for you. We can confirm that people like to hear about how awesome they are ; ) Tell those around you how important they are to you. Tell them why you appreciate them + it will not only make you feel great, but them as well. Win-win!
5] CONTINUOUSLY SHOW SUPPORT
It feels good to hear someone say that they’ll always be there for you. Make sure your friends know that no matter what, you’re someone they can count on. We’re all busy, but it’s good to take the time to show those who matter to you that you’re there whenever life gets tough. Whether this means shooting them a supportive text, writing them an encouraging note or posting a positive comment on their insta, show them that you’re the girl that’s always there to support them : )
Next time you need to thank someone, try doing so in a more creative way. Saying thank you is easy, but going out of your way to show appreciation is much more effective in showing your gratitude <3
