The new year gives us the opportunity to start fresh, so why not resolve to give your space a cleanse this year? The new year is the perfect opportunity for you to go through your stuff + get organized. Organizing your space will help you feel less stressed, allowing you to have the confidence to work towards your goals + new year resolutions. In addition, by throwing away your old stuff, you can make room for new things, like some more CHAARG gear ; )
We know it may be intimidating thinking about where to even start when it comes to decluttering, but we’re here to make it easier + help you get started!
Before starting your *clutter detox,* it’s important to split your space up into different sections [for example, closet, book shelf, winter clothes, summer clothes, shoes, etc] + focus on decluttering one section at a time. Although it may be tempting to start emptying everything all at once, it will quickly leave you overwhelmed.
Once you section off your space, start emptying your things out, section by section. Each time you take something out, ask yourself the following questions to decide whether you should keep it or toss it.
Have you worn it or used it in the last 6 months? If the answer to this question is no, stop debating, + toss it! Chances are, if it hasn’t gotten any use within the last few months, you’re not going to need or want it in the future.
Does it have sentimental value? Anything with sentimental value is definitely worth holding on to, but if you have anything with no sentimental value that is taking up space, it’s time to let it go.
Does it fit? If you’re going through your clothing + come across something that no longer fits, consider donating it. Although it may be hard to part with your favorite jeans that no longer fit [thanks to all da squats you’ve been doing ; )], you’re creating clutter by keeping them. Use this as a way to help you embrace the body you have now without holding on to anything that may be reminding you of a negative lifestyle in the past. It’s important to move forward + work towards a better you each + every day.
Is it in good shape? Think about it — are you really going to wear that shirt with a hole or stains? If you don’t want to totally get rid of it, reuse it by cutting it up into a cleaning rag.
Do you feel good in it? This is one of the most important things you need to ask yourself. If you feel good in something, even if it’s something other people don’t like, keep it. You should feel confident in your clothing, so hold on to anything you own that makes you feel exactly that ; )
After you’ve gone through your entire space + have decided what to keep//toss, take all the things you decided you didn’t want + put them into trash bags or boxes. Find an organization that donates used items + take your items there instead of throwing them away — by doing so, you’ll be spreading some #CHAARGmas cheer to those who are less fortunate.
If you have any fitness gear you want to get rid of, consider having your own Fitionista Detox. As CHAARG HQ sells their old gear, feel free to post yours in different Facebook groups so you can share your style with other CHAARGies!
Now that everything you don’t want is out of the way, you need to find a place for everything you decided to keep. Fold your clothes + put them back in your drawers or hang them up in your closet. If you’re having trouble making it all squeeze, consider rolling your clothes! It can reduce wrinkles + allow you to store more in drawers. Any other items you have should be given a specific place. If it’s something you use every day, put it somewhere you can easily access. If it’s something you don’t really use, store it away somewhere that will not get in your way, like the top of your closet or under your bed.
Decluttering doesn’t have to be difficult. Take CHAARG of the task + start the new year off right. Share with us on Insta how you’re starting the new season organized!
