Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.
While we all tend to love goals + work as hard as we can to achieve them, sometimes we find our goals being blocked by fear. Maybe it’s the fear of failure or the unknown, like if we will be able to lift a certain weight or get the job we wanted. Whatever it may be, we often times let fear hold us back from achieving our goals. If we really want to reach our goals though, we have to be willing to take those fears + conquer them. Whenever you feel yourself allowing fear to block you from your goals, try these steps to help you overcome them —
Each time you feel yourself being held back by fear, take a moment + consider why you’re afraid —
1] WHAT IS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO?
Start off with what all could potentially go wrong. Don’t keep your focus on the bad, of course, but think about it for a moment. Maybe your goal is to learn how to use all the machines in the weight room, but you find yourself too afraid to even walk in. You might be worried that you’ll look ridiculous trying to figure out how to use each machine. The worst case scenario may be that you injure yourself if you use a machine wrong. Now take that worst case scenario + remember that everyone in that room was a beginner too. Often times that worse case scenario ends up not being as bad as we make it out to be + it’s best to push it aside + not let it stop us from reaching our goals!
2] WHAT IS THE BEST CASE SCENARIO?
Now shift your focus from the negative to the positive. You may find a machine that you absolutely love or inspire someone else to overcome their fear of the weight room. You could even make new friends with the person working out at a machine near you! The best possible scenario won’t always happen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep it in mind when conquering your fear! Keeping a positive, best-case-scenario mindset will help you to fight back fear + continue reaching toward your goal. You’ve got this!
Starting small is always a great idea! Maybe starting small means only trying one machine a day until you learn them all or bringing a friend along to ease the fear. Whatever it may be, starting small does not mean you are letting your fears win! Every step you take toward your goal and away from fear is a step in the right direction. Take it one day // thing at a time + before you know it, your fear will fade away!
When we think of being fearless, we often believe it means that we shouldn’t have any fears. However, being fearless is not the absence of fear but the overcoming or mastering of fears. Most people experience fear, but those who want to be fearless choose to push forward despite the fear. Next time you feel your fears taking over, remember that courage stems from fear + it’s okay to be afraid. You have to have fear in order to overcome it + be fearless. Walk head first towards your fears with courage + confidence ++ be fearless!
Next time you feel yourself allowing your fears to block your goals, take a step back + remind yourself that you can do this! Don’t let your fear dictate what you’re capable of.
