Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for what you ate.
Exercising is a way to show your body how much you love it + all it’s capable of! When you find yourself thinking *I need to work extra hard at the gym because I [insert unhealthy habit]* you begin to turn exercise into a punishment, placing negativity on your fitness journey. You may begin to push yourself harder than your body might be capable of + talk negatively about yourself when you don’t see the results you want. When you feel yourself beginning to use exercise as a punishment, take a step back + remind yourself that your body is beautiful the way it is. You probably didn’t create that FitGoal + start this journey because you hated the way you looked, you wanted to become stronger + healthier! —
FITNESS IS NOT A PUNISHMENT
Working out should be a way to love your body, not punish it for any kind of over-indulging! We exercise because we love our bodies + we want them to be the strongest // healthiest they can be. When we allow exercise to become a form of punishment, we seem to be telling our bodies they aren’t good enough. We deserve indulgences: yummy eats, delicious treats, + lazy nights in.Thinking of exercise as punishment can lead us to over-exercise + injury ourselves or create a negative impact on our fitness journey. When it comes to exercise, we have to remember all our bodies are capable of + strive to continue making them the best they can be. Fitness should never be a way to punish yourself // your body for a moment of an unhealthy habit. Exercise because you love your body + you want to thank it for all it is capable of!
REASONS TO EXERCISE
There are countless reasons to exercise that don’t involve punishing your body! Next time you start to exercise out of punishment, remember some of the reasons you should want to exercise —
1] To grow stronger
2] To reduce stress + anxiety
3] To feel good about your body + its capabilities
4] To boost your confidence
5] To have more energy throughout the day
6] To feel happier [gotta love endorphins!]
CREATE AN EXCITING ROUTINE
Part of the reason we may start to view exercise as a punishment is because we no longer find our routine fun! CHAARG is all about finding your fit, so consider switching up your routine + trying something to add some fun + excitement back into working out. Fitness classes [like spin class or Zumba! ; )] can create a routine that leaves you looking forward to the next workout instead of feeling like you’re punishing yourself. Allow yourself to be flexible + shake things up a bit to fall back in love with fitness!
No matter what the reason, it’s never a good idea to let fitness feel like a punishment! Take a moment to remember your FitGoal + how far you’ve come on your journey. Don’t forget you have thousands of CHAARG girls here to support you + help you fall back in love with fitness!
