I’ve been getting a lot of stares lately… I’ve recently gained a new accessory in my daily routine + no it’s not Victoria’s Secret Sport related ; ). At the beginning of January, I started carrying around a gallon of water. I know you’re thinking I turned into one of those body builder guys you see at the gym, casually sipping a gallon during their workouts. But — do you know how good it actually is for you?
Not long ago, I read an article that I’ve seen circulating around the internet about how a woman lost *10 years off her face* from drinking a gallon of water a day. The results this woman saw were incredible [see below!]. I was totally intrigued + wanted to test it for myself! I did some research + saw that tons of other people who participated in the Gallon Water Challenge + had experienced similar results! [++ how hard can it be to drink a gallon a day?]
Of course, I wanted to know what I was getting myself into + what all the benefits would be. Did you know that both the brain + the heart are composed of 73% water — the lungs about 83% water — skin 64% water? It’s crazy to think how something we so easily have access to can help our bodies so much!
Since your skin is made up of more than half water, it makes sense that drinking more water will liven up your skin. Water helps keep your skin moisturized + glowing! Something interesting I found — if you don’t drink enough water, your body will try to retain what it is given in order to conserve the resources, which could lead to bloating + puffy skin [ahh!].
2] FLUSHES TOXINS FROM THE BODY.
We all know what happens when we drink too much water [we become frequent fliers to the ladies room…]. This is actually a good thing — you are riding you body of harmful toxins.
3] KEEPS YOU FEELING FULL.
I have heard this time + time again but never fully realized how true it was until doing this challenge: water really does make you full. Honestly, after the second day I couldn’t wait for dinner because my Mom had made something delicious that night — I got home + only at 1 serving [usually I could eat 2!]. The next time you feel as if you are *starving* try drinking a 8 oz glass of water. Give it a few minutes + see how your feel — body may not be hungry, just thirsty instead!
4] HELPS YOU BUILD MUSCLE.
++ we thought protein was the only way to make your muscles strong ; ) Because water carries oxygen to the cells of your body — drinking plenty of water enables adequate transportation + allows your muscles to work hard//longer before feeling tired.
5] INCREASES FOCUS.
The brain is made up of 73% water so it seems simple that drinking more water will make you *smarter!* Drinking enough water ensures that your brain gets the oxygen it needs to function at its optimal level! Research even says that drinking 8-10 cups of water per day can improve your cognitive performance by as much as 30%!
I am about ¼ of the way through my challenge + I’ve noticed some amazing things so far! You know that terrible *I’m thirsty — gimme water now* feeling? I constantly feel hydrated + it feels great to know that my body is getting the hydration it needs. I also noticed I am able to workout harder + run longer! I am only about a week and a half in + I cannot wait to see even more improvements throughout this month — follow me on insta for weekly updates!
So, whose up for taking on the Gallon Water Challenge? Let us know if you’re taking the challenge + any improvements you see in yourself [tag #inCHAARG + @chaarg]!
Stay hydrated y’all!
