The #YearOfTheBolt was one for the record books. In 2015 CHAARG owned 3 new FitPlans, + expanded, now totalling 29 campus chapters, all while liberating thousands of girls from the elliptical. In 2015, #GirlBoss Gabby Berstein [the Spirit Junkie] became every CHAARG girl’s *girl crush* + meditation guru. We were able to witness the rise of the fitness tracker, the #GoalDigger mindset + why it’s so important to #TreatYourself.
As healthy living takes our world by storm, 2016 is sure to include the rise of new health + fitness trends. Here are CHAARG’s top 11 wellness trends to watch in 2016!
#1] ALL-INCLUSIVE WELLNESS STUDIOS
As CHAARGies know, rather than being just a *part* of your life — health + wellness has turned into a full on lifestyle. ++ As a result, all inclusive fitness studios are catching on. Think about it — you typically don’t go to a SoulCycle class then head to the nearest McDonald’s. If you are sweating it out on the bike for an hour, you are usually craving something healthy like an acai bowl afterward. Los Angeles is driving the trend of accomplishing the marriage of health + wellness under one roof — *retail fitness* they call it. A one-stop-shop for all things health + fitness – we are sure any CHAARG girl could deal with this being in their city. We can definitely see ourselves taking one of these vacations!
#2] GUACAMOLE <3
2015 was not only the #YearOfTheBolt, but it was also the #YearOfTheAvacado. In 2016, the avocado is going to get kicked up a notch with creative takes on our classic guacamole dishes. Think Asian, Mediterranean + other twists on the classic snack.
#3] HOMES = SANCTUARIES
For some CHAARGies having their apartment//dorm//home in order makes their lives feel less cluttered + less stressful. ++ for others, organizing your athletic gear in color coded order doesn’t necessarily get your #GoodVibes flowing, but in 2016 it just might! The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up — a book that has inspired the world to re-imagine their homes + living spaces in a spiritual way — will certainly re-think how you invest in your space. It shows us the importance of treating our homes, apartments + even dorms like they are our special sanctuaries. If you feel like your #GoodVibes are running on empty, the organization of your personal space is a good place to start filling the tank up.
#4] NITRO COFFEE
Nitrogen-infused coffee — say what?! It’s an on-tap, cold, creamy coffee beverage. The claimed purpose of the nitrogen is to promote blood flow + is less acidic than your normal cup-of-joe. It is also said to be organic without additives, artificial color, taste, cream, etc. If you are a coffee-lover like most CHAARGies, you’ll have to let your taste buds try this one out for themselves + let us know what you think!
Every FITionista’s dream — more of the athleisure trend! Just when we were afraid athleisure was a quick-to-die-off trend, we got some very exciting news — it’s here to stay ; ). As healthy lifestyles are taking off as a cultural obsession, the athleisure movement is quickly turning into a SUPER trend. Even Merriam Webster has declared designers you never thought of as the active wear *type* digging into this industry + creating athleisure buzzwords ranging from casual , effortless + comfortable to chic,++ sophisticated.
#6] *UBER*-IZATION OF BEAUTY + SPA SERVICES
Why should you leave your apartment if you can have on-demand beauty + spa services with just the tap of a finger? Your smartphone can have a massage therapist, facialist + manicurist to your front door faster than you could order take-out at your favorite pizza place down the street. The *Uber*-ization of beauty + spa services have become so increasingly popular because women [CHAARG girls especially ; )] are just so busy! Now you don’t have to pencil in the extra 30 minutes in both directions it typically takes you to get to your monthly manicure. Places are also offering beauty treatments [like blow-out salons] where you are in + out in under an hour feeling fresh + ready to take on your day — making beauty services possible for all the busy + stressed out college aged girls!
#7] INTENSIVE FITNESS PROGRAMS
Intensive fitness programs include additional lifestyle aspects beyond just workouts — like health coaching + nutrition plans. The purpose is to create an environment where you recommit your lifestyle to being happier + healthier in all aspects. These programs combine goal-setting, nutrition + intense group sweat seshes, which provide support ++ a sense of accountability to #OwningYourLife for longer than just the month of January — sounds familiar? ; )
#8] BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU DRINK
Skin-care is no longer about what additional products you can put on your face, but rather what you can put in your glass. Companies are creating beverages jam packed with nutrients that will help your skin glow from within — fighting acne, aging + so much more! Many of these drinks include superfood ingredients that are associated with skin health. Who knew you really are what you eat [or drink]?
#9] MEDITATION GATHERINGS
In 2015, meditation has been shown in a whole new light with guided meditation smartphone applications ++ our honorary CHAARGie, Gabby Bernstein, leading the way in mindful practices. In 2016 the meditation trend will only grow, + may just become a part of your social life. CHAARGies who may have once met for their fav cocktail hours on Fridays, instead are meeting to attend a guided meditation class//larger mediation gatherings. Meditation is not just a solo date idea any longer. It’s becoming a productive + social way to chill out.
#10] MATCHA EVERYTHING
What is that green stuff? I vaguely remember witnessing someone order Matcha at Starbucks for the first time — I was very curious as to what that green stuff was. When I tried it for myself, I was pleasantly surprised how delicious it was! In 2016, matcha will be used in a variety of ways other than for beverages [i.e. desserts + brunch items]. We wouldn’t be surprised if this antioxidant packed green tea starts showing up in beauty products before the end of the year.
#11] Cold Pressed Juice + Nut Milks
Nut milks are getting people’s attention in 2016, like cold pressed juices were in earlier years. CHAARGies with dairy intolerances are consuming these yummy beverages as a milk substitute. Because they are natural, refrigerated, + lack any harmful ingredients typical milk may have, consumers are choosing nut milks. It is said to be like comparing store-bought orange juice versus freshly squeezed, which is vastly different in the fresh department.
#12] BOUTIQUE HIIT STUDIOS
HIIT [high intensity interval training] fitness studios are appearing on practically every street corner [a bit of an exaggeration… but there are a ton!], like Orangetheory Fitness, City Row, Sproing Fitness, Shred415 + Kore. “What is all the buzz about this *HIIT* workout?,” you ask. HIIT is becoming increasingly popular because of the magical concept of an *after-burn.* When you frequently increase and decrease your heart rate your body experiences *Excess-Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption.* EPOC is what makes you burn calories for up to 48 hours after your workout + provides your body with faster results.
#13] SWEAT SESH + HAPPY HOUR — SAY WHAT?
The fitness guru who created this concept is a genius ++ it’s taking off at many studios across the nation. You get the best of a Friday sweat sesh + a happy hour all in one. Lucky for you — you’ll never have to choose between your workout + attending happy hour again. Talk about TGIF!
