Creating a work-life balance is essential for everyone. Planning me-time for yourself, as well as knowing when to buckle into work is extremely valuable as you grow your career // work through school. We’re breaking down what work-life balance is + our favorite ways to obtain one —
A work-life balance is finding + creating a healthy equilibrium between your workload + your personal time. Work-life balance extends past your scheduled hours + when you go on vacation — it is maintaining a healthy work day + finding something fun to do over the weekend // after work. Maintaining balance can also be done in the workplace — ensuring you take your lunch breaks, saying no if you have too much on your plate , + asking for help when you are unsure how to handle a situation. At the end of the day, work-life balance is another way to help your health.
Work-life balance is important as it helps you maintain your mental health + allows you to plan for fun! Balance also allows you to have something to look forward to + plan for. This allows you to focus on your work // school goals while you’re there + leave them at work when you are gone. This allows you to pick up your personal goals [that are on your vision board ; ) ] + put your energy into these during your free time. Having separation between work + personal life also allows you to focus on the *now*. When you are at your desk focus on your current project, when you’re at the gym focus on mind-to-muscle connection, + when you’re reading a book you can focus on the story. Maintaining balance keeps you human + will prevent you from burning out.
In the age of technology + laptops it is important to set times // boundaries for yourself. While it might be inevitable to log on to your server after hours, limit distractions + get your work done. Limit checking emails to only those needed + log off when you finish. When you’re making plans for the weekend plan something you want to do, not just something to fill the time. You’ll be excited about the plan + once you’re there you’ll be focused on that event. We have a few ideas for plans to make below —
So many shelters // charities // kids camps are looking for volunteers. Find a cause you are passionate about + reach out to volunteer. You’ll be spending time supporting an organization you are passionate about + focusing on bettering yourself ++ your community. It is a win-win situation : )
INVITE COWORKERS TO HAPPY HOUR
Get to know your coworkers on a personal level. Get out of the cubes + let loose a little bit. If you aren’t in the 21+ crowd, go anyway! There is nothing wrong with an iced tea, good apps, + better conversation. If no one in your office takes the initiative to plan these, plan them yourself! Find a day that works for the majority of the group + make a calendar invitation once you decide. This will keep everyone feeling good + keep work morale elevated.
TAKE A TRIP
Plan a trip to a place you have only wanted to see, pack your carry-on + go. This trip can be something as small as a day-trip down the road to a weekend in your dream city. Grab your friends + hit the road. Snap pics along the way [+ share your journey with #CHAARGGoes], turn up the tunes ++ get cruisin’.
GO ON A DATE
Take yourself on a solo date or go on a date with friends or your significant other — either way dress up + go! This revolves around the idea of having a plan + looking forward to the event. If it is a nice day make a date to go to a park + walk // run, or dress up + head to a swanky new restaurant in town. Either way, make a plan + have fun : )
