Every little thing, even inanimate objects, emits its own *energy.* Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art that revolves around utilizing this energy to create a harmonious, personal environment to support health, happiness + positivity. If you’re looking for a way to add these things + destress your life, a good place to start is your bedroom. Thankfully, there are a lot of ways to take your room + transform it into a Feng Shui haven —
Different colors in your room will promote different moods + atmospheres:
>> Soft, natural, + warm colors promote psychological serenity
>> Earth tones, like beige or light yellow, encourage nourishment + stability
>> Colors like red, orange, + pink invigorate passion + romance
Almost all Feng Shui experts can agree that electronics [yes, including your cell phone!] should not be allowed into the bedroom. It disrupts our natural circadian rhythm + suppresses melatonin [the hormone that helps you sleep]. Also, the time directly before + after sleep should be time for pleasant thoughts, planning, + relaxation — all which don’t involve the intrusiveness of a phone or TV blaring.
Although, it may be a necessary evil to cheat a little bit, or else we might never wake up in the morning without our alarms ; )
3] YOUR BED
According to the art of Feng Shui, a bed should be as far away from the door as possible. However, you should still be able to keep an eye on it in order to feel safe + comfortable in your own house. Your bed should also not be right below or next to the window, since chi energy flows to + from the outdoors. Feng Shui dictates that if you sleep near this disturbing energy, you’ll have a restless night’s sleep.
The most obvious step to achieve a room of *zen* is to simply clear it of useless junk + unnecessary objects. They symbolize unfinished business + a messy mind. You’ll find yourself far more productive in a room that is clean // organized.
5] SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GOOD VIBES
Get rid of anything associated with negative thoughts. Let the positive vibes flow by dressing up your room with things like art, fun pictures, family portraits — anything that will make you happy or inspire you. Remember that images carry a powerful energy + should be chosen very wisely ++ carefully.
6] CONSIDER LIGHTING
Set the mood by mimicking the natural light of the sun [for example, dim the lights as the day goes on] to promote naturalness + peace. Candles are also a great idea because they are intimate, relaxing, + easy on the eyes.
7] APPEAL TO YOUR SENSES
There’s nothing more relaxing than walking into a bedroom that both looks pretty + smells pleasant [bonus points for light, relaxing music!]. Light your favorite scented candle, incorporate simple yet appealing textures, + transform your room into a *sensory* sanctuary.
8] MOVE YOUR MIRRORS
Mirrors accentuate what they reflect — make sure not to place it across from anything that could bring on negative thoughts. Additionally, according to Feng Shui legend, you should especially take caution in placing mirrors right across from your bed. This invites a third party into your relationships + promotes infidelity.
Feng Shui your room, Feng Shui Your Life. A life of minimal stress + a positive state of mind will come naturally with the process. Even if you can’t achieve perfect Feng Shui, you can still get the positive energy flowin’!
