Before the CHAARG FitPlan, I would hardly workout. The only workouts I would do each week were the OSU CHAARG Main Events + Small Group workouts. While twice a week isn’t awful [especially for a busy college student], I knew I could do better. I’m so thankful that I was able to snag a spot for the FitPlan because it gave me the little kick in the booty that I needed.
During the FitPlan, I was regularly hitting the gym + I was actually ENJOYING it! Before the FitPlan, I struggled with enjoying workouts + looking forward to them, but not anymore! One of my FitPlan goals was to develop a workout routine + to stick to it. I quickly learned that there is no such thing as *routine* in college. BUT I was able to adapt my goal, ++ now I have been working on MAKING TIME for workouts each week + dedicating time each day to get in some form of physical activity, from a killer sweat sesh to a small hike though a local park.
Another goal I had for the FitPlan was to become more conscious of what I fuel my body with. I’ve definitely become more aware of what I eat or what ingredients I aim to include or avoid in my lifestyle. That doesn’t mean that I don’t eat a little junk here + there [treat yo self ; )], but I definitely think about my options more often ++ I’m beginning to become more passionate about nutrition.
I also had the goal to learn to appreciate my mind + body more. One way that I adopted this mindset was to put more energy into focusing on what I LOVE about myself, rather than what needs to be changed about it. I noticed that I would turn phrases like *I hate my thunder thighs* into *Damn, I have powerful legs*. To be entirely honest, being able to find things that I like about myself is far greater than losing a few pounds [although both were appreciated ;)].
I definitely noticed mental changes, which are more valuable to me than the physical changes, but I noticed some physical changes too! I lost about ten pounds + seven inches off my body [my before + after pictures don’t do my progress any justice]. Surprisingly, I was more excited to feel rock solid quads or to finish a super challenging workout than to see the number on the scale drop.
I think the greatest part about the FitPlan was the community. Being surrounded by 1000 girls who are so positive + encouraging definitely helped me stay on track + kept me feeling positive on the daily. During the FitPlan, I made several new friends within my CHAARG Chapter + worked out with at least one new girl a week. I got to know so many incredible people + I’ll be forever grateful to CHAARG + the FitPlan for the amazing connections I made ++ the great, brand-new mindset I’m walking away with.
#CHAARGJourney highlights our members’ amazing journeys through CHAARG — physically, mentally, emotionally. Ariana was one of the three winners of the CHAARG FITPLAN 2015. We could not be more proud of her for appreciating her mind + body ++ we are so thankful for brining her inspiring attitude to the CHAARG community! We cannot wait to follow her journey through CHAARG!
