After a long day, many of us like to curl up in bed + watch Netflix. While one or two episodes of *The Office* might be what ya need to relax + unwind, there are many different things you can do instead of binge-watching Netflix that will make you more productive [+ improve your health!]. Here are a few of our lazy day alternatives to #reCHAARG —
1] READ A BOOK
If you love the *story* aspect of watching a show, reading a book is the perfect alternative. You can follow a storyline, while avoiding all the negatives associated with watching too much TV, like insomnia, neck stiffness, + dry eyes. By cozying up with a good book + warm drink in your hand, you’ll also be introducing yourself to new words + increasing your vocabulary!
2] LOG BOLTS
Get outside + start moving — whether it’s walking, hiking, running, or riding a bike! Spending more time outside has amazing benefits, such as improved sleep, increasing brain function, + reducing stress. Better yet, grab another #CHAARGie for some fresh air + good vibes.
No matter where you live, there are always ways to help those out who are less fortunate than you. If you attend a university, find a community service club — or, you can easily find something online! There are even apps to help you get involved, such as VolunteerMatch + Catalista. Use your free time to do something good, while also feelin’ good.
4] ORGANIZE YOUR SPACE
We all have certain parts of our homes that tend to get neglected while we’re busy rushing between classes + work. Watching the clutter build up might cause even more stress — so avoid procrastination + get organizing! Use your free time to be productive + de-clutter your space.
Even if you’re not the best writer, it’s still a great way to pass time + unwind. You can write in a personal journal or, if you want others to read your writing, start a blog [+ check out more #CHAARG posts for inspo ; )].
6] GRAB COFFEE WITH FRIENDS
Find a cute cafe + invite your close [or new!] friends with you. It’s always fun to catch up + spend quality time with the people you love. Instead of isolating yourself in the warmth of your bed with your laptop, strengthen the bond between you + your friends.
7] EXPLORE YOUR CITY
No matter how long you’ve lived in a city, there are always new neighborhoods + areas to explore. Learn about the history, take a tour, discover a new cafe, or walk around + take in the scenery. Embrace your home, whether new or old, ++ know your city inside // out like a true local!
8] GET AHEAD IN YOUR CLASSES // WORK
There’s always something we can be doing to stay on top of the work in our classes or jobs. Put those time-management skills to use! Getting ahead on your assignments or studying early will help you balance everything going on in life + keep you feeling less stressed + more prepared when exams roll around. If you’re post-grad or on break, try pursuing personal development or a passion project!
9] CALL SOMEONE
It’s important to keep in touch with your family + friends, so replace an hour of Netflix with a phone call or FaceTime with someone you love. Sometimes a kind word of encouragement or having someone to vent to is all that you need when you’re feeling stressed.
Dancing is a fun workout + stress reliever. It’s much better than laying down + staring at a screen for hours at a time, so blast some tunes + break out the moves ; )
We all need time to unwind, but binge-watching Netflix isn’t always the best way to do so. Next time you’re feeling tired or bored, think about other meaningful + productive ways to spend your free time : )
