While some associate Spring Break FitPlan with all the #gainz for that *spring break bod,* my focus and goals were that of becoming more mentally fit in order to improve my physical fitness! It was especially helpful that the theme of this FitPlan was #selflove with an added meditation portion [thanks, Cat! <3] which allowed me was to grow exponentially more than I had anticipated! In honor of those five weeks of growth, instead of sharing just my goals, I am sharing my five BIGGEST discoveries on this journey of self-love and understanding from each of my #meditationmondays :
1] COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF JOY
Especially physical comparison… hence why I have 0 progress pictures left on my phone. This FitPlan I decided not to take before//after pictures because I definitely get super down if I don’t *SEE* physical change. Instead of comparing my before body + my after body, I looked at how many miles I could run, how much easier PiYo got, or how many more push-ups I could do [UPDATE: I’ve graduated to being able to do them on my toes! *arm pump emoji*]
2] FOOD IS FUEL
This one was a challenge, as I have always been on two ends of the spectrum, eat nothing at all or everything in sight. And when I work out I usually eat nothing… ++ after one week of FitPlan, I was STARVING. During one morning of mediation I came to the realization that I was depriving my body of the most important thing [+ my love language] FOOD. After adding in a few extra healthy + energizing snacks, I found myself able to power through school, work, ++ a tough workout.
3] LEARN TO REST, NOT QUIT
This one I’m still working on! I find it very easy to get burnt out on going to the gym, especially when I’m doing workout I don’t absolutely love! During Week 3 I was absolutely over lifting + couldn’t do it anymore, ++ I started skipping the #6AMcrew. I let myself rest for one week + then Week 4 got back to the rec or going outside doing the FitPlan. I enjoy using the FitPlan as a GUIDE, not a rule book, taking breaks when my body told me I needed them.
4] DON’T FIT THE WORKOUT — MAKE THE WORKOUT FIT YOU
Of course, we all need to push ourselves for growth. BUT, when I can’t do a workout as written, I can get really frustrated, resulting in a lot of negative self-talk. This FitPlan I realized modification is everything [+ helps keep the #burnoutblues away]; so any time I felt a workout was too challenging for where I am in my fitness journey, I shifted my focus to making it fit me + more positive self-talk on what I CAN do : )
5] LIFE IS A JAGGED LINE, BUT FULL OF POSITIVE GROWTH
Okay this one actually came to me while reading a book [check out Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella if you ever have the chance!]. This idea is that life can be graphed. After graphing my own life in my journal, I noticed that the line is jagged day to day, as life is full up both ups + downs. What I realized at the end of the 5 weeks is I was forgetting to look at the big picture [the direction of the line]! While day to day life may have its ups + downs, the movement is still upwards, there is always positive growth <3
Building off number five, my rapid growth in positivity, self-love, + confidence is all thanks to CHAARG + the community of girls I have become so close with [especially my #kentstatechaarg girls ; )]. I joined just last semester + I am currently the happiest + most positive version of myself that I have ever been ++ I can never thank CHAARG enough for all the love + support they’ve given me along the way [it can change your life if you let it!]. The 2017 Spring Bring Break FitPlan, my third FitPlan, had to have been my absolute favorite — it not only challenged me physically + mentally, but inspired me + gave me the confidence to hopefully inspire others by sharing my story! : )
#CHAARGJourney highlights our members’ amazing journeys through CHAARG — physically, mentally, emotionally.
