Yoga is a practice for anyone who is looking to calm their mind, body, + soul. Many of us have gone to a yoga class before, but fewer of us have gone to a morning yoga class. It’s a great way to start your day + find peace in the world around you. We know, getting out of bed early is hard, but we also know that we can all benefit from a little bit of stretchin’ early in the AM —
1] SET YOUR INTENTION
Many of us wake up 10 minutes before class or work starts, throw a random outfit on, + run out the door as we grab breakfast to-go. This causes stress + can negatively affect the rest of your day. Performing a morning yoga practice every morning will not only help you avoid the *running late* stress, but help you set your intention for the day. Set a positive focus for your day with a little bit of yoga, + you’ll see that it will have a domino effect on the way the rest of your day will go.
2] BECOME A MORNING PERSON
Mornings can be *blah,* but they don’t have to be that way. Adding yoga to your morning schedule may seem hard to get used to at first, but once you do it a few times + it becomes habitual, you will actually enjoy waking up for your practice. Some people look forward to the mornings for their energizing coffee or their yummy breakfast, ++ others look forward to their morning yoga!
3] AVOID STRESS
With every exhale you take during your yoga practice, your body releases stress by relaxing muscles to reduce tension. If you begin your day stressed, you are more likely to end your day stressed. Find your center + inner peace before taking on your busy day.
4] ENJOY SOME *ME-TIME*
Finding *me-time* can be hard with to-do lists fo’ days, but it is important to be able to set some time aside for yourself. Yoga is the perfect way to get to know yourself + your body, ++ with every practice, you’ll start to learn the importance of loving your body + soul. What better way to enjoy some *me-time* than with a mind // body connection? Although you can save your *me-time* for later in the day too, it’s beneficial to include in your morning schedule so that you don’t push it aside throughout the day. Make it a priority + keep yourself *sane* by giving your mind + body a way to relax.
5] BOOST YOUR BRAINPOWER
We always hear about the benefits of *superfoods* for our brains, but what about yoga? Yoga has amazing effects for our brains as well, such as an increase in focus, speed, + processing. If you’re having trouble focusing in the morning, yoga is a great way to combat this — even performing only 20 minutes of yoga a day will help increase your brain function.
6] FIND YOURSELF
Yoga challenges you both mentally + physically — it helps you develop a mind // body connection. Waking up early gives you the peace of mind to find this connection + build on it. Pay attention to every breathe you take + the way that every pose makes you feel. You’ll be amazed at all your body can do, ++ make sure to challenge yourself as well. Only then will you be able to understand that you have the power to exceed your own expectations + truly find yourself.
7] BOOST YOUR MOOD
With our busy schedules, there are many times where it’s hard to think of the positives. Studies show that yoga is known to boost your mood more than other forms of exercise. By combating stress + making you more aware, you become a happier person that is more centered + better able to better handle anger + stress.
Yoga is a practice that everyone can do. Whether you do poses in your room or attend a class, the benefits of morning yoga are remarkable — so grab that mat, get stretchin’, + show us your poses on insta [@chaarg].
