We’re all about the #6AMCrew + getting our sweat sesh in first thing. A lot of times, we start sweating before our minds even know what our bodies are doing, but other times, we know we’re hungry + need some fuel ASAP. You probably don’t want a full brekky that early, but sometimes you to need to grab a lil somethin’ —
Before a sweat sesh, you need some fast-absorbing carbs to give you quick energy. Fruit is an easy go-to, whether it’s a banana, apples, handful of berries, or even dried fruits. If you’re doing some strength training, you might want to add a little protein, ++ PB is always a great addition to fruit : )
When did bread get a bad rep?! Whole grain // whole wheat bread — whether in the form of toast, a mini bagel, or even an English muffin — can be an awesome source of fuel for your sweat seshes. If you need some extra energy, you can always top it with a spread, like honey, jelly, or avocado!
3] RICE CAKES // CRACKERS
Another quick way to eat some carbs is rice cakes or crackers. Lighter than bread, these are easy to grab + go, ++ it’s also easy to customize your serving size. Going to a yoga class? Maybe you only need a couple crackers. Going on a lon run? Maybe you need a couple rice cakes with almond butter. Eat what fuels your body.
4] OATS // CEREAL
Oats + cereal offer endless options for pre-workout fuel. You can prepare some overnight oats so they’re ready to go when you are, pour a bowl of cereal, heat up some oatmeal, or, as suggested by VirtCHAARG Post Grad member Alli Hartman, combine Cheerios + PB — pour some Cheerios in a bowl to mix with PB, creating your own energy bites. YUM!
If you need something really quick, a bar is always a great source of fuel. Aim to eat bars with lower added sugar to avoid a sugar crash. Some of our favs are Larabars, Rxbars, or CLIF bars. If you want fresher than fresh, trying making your own!
Don’t forget to hydrate before, during, ++ after you exercise [maybe some coffee too!], ++ save the heavy protein for afterwards to help those muscles recover. Whenever you workout, make sure you’re properly fueled + feeling ready to conquer your sweat sesh : )
