The holiday season is filled with so many amazing things — great memories from the past, new memories being made + traditions being continued. It’s a feel good time for family + friends ++ a perfect time to R E L A X!
Whether a long weekend or a month off, we see holiday breaks as a time to do exactly that — take a break — but how can we elevate those few weeks so that we stay committed to our goals? Here are our tips for an active winter break —
1] EARLY TO BED, EARLY TO RISE
If you’re visiting home + find your schedule free for once, do yourself a favor + get some much needed rest in addition to staying active. Perhaps you can get to bed earlier so your body is ready for a day of activity, rather than sleeping in everyday + feeling sluggish.
If you’re visiting home + find yourself with an open schedule for once, do your body a favor + catch up on some sleep. As important as it is to stay active, your body needs time to recover, + the zzz’s often have the lowest priority during the crazy parts of the semester or your work. Instead of sleeping in all day, focus on going to bed earlier. You may even try joining the #6AMCREW — what better time to start a great habit than when you’re free of exam prep + FOMO?
2] GO OUTSIDE
Instead of enjoying the cold weather from inside + doing things like drinking coffee by a fire [okay, we’re kidding — do that too ; )] take a hike or take your pets for a walk. If there’s snow where you’re from, it’s fun to take your family + hike around a local golf course, or throw snowballs at a park! Don’t forget to bundle up + bring your A-game to that snowball fight ; )
3] TREAT YOURSELF TO NEW GEAR
There’s nothing like feelin’ yourself in the gym in some fresh new #fitionista gear. Take advantage of the holiday sales + treat yo’ self with some new workout gear or other inspiring fitness items like a fit journal or a water bottle to motivate you to get back at it! Bonus if you’re repping CHAARG in the gym + recognizing your fellow #CHAARGies in your hometown ; )
4] STAY IN TO SWEAT
We know that the holidays can come with some seriously inclement weather that makes it almost impossible to work out, let alone leave the house — warm up inside with a workout DVD, YouTube video, or one of our #sweatseshes! Unsafe weather can make the gym too much of a reach, but don’t let that stop you from breaking a sweat.
5] GET INVOLVED
See what’s going on in your area — the holidays bring out the best events! A great way to stay active while still getting in the holiday spirit is to do a holiday 5k, a polar plunge, or other community-inspired event. Ask your friends + fam to tag along — who knows, maybe you can even start a new tradition?
Enjoy your holidays ++ don’t forget to stay active + #treatyoself ; )
