If you’re not workin’ a 9 to 5 this summer, chances are you’ve probably got a killer part-time gig + a few other fun things filling up your time [maybe you’re studying abroad in Europe or getting your tan on while lifeguarding all summer!]. Regardless of what these next few months have in store for you, we can all agree that the *summatime* really messes with our sense of routine. When we don’t have somewhat of a routine, it’s tempting to stray from living our healthiest + happiest lives. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of summer — from staying up late every night watching just ONE more episode of your current show, to splurging a little too much on junk food with your best pals.
Summer is, without a doubt, the season for relaxing + unwinding. However, because of this mentality to you might be holding yourself back from being the best version of yourself. So, here are five common obstacles that *might* be holding you back this summer… ++ how to CONQUER them:
1] YOUR SLEEP SCHEDULE
Getting enough rest is SO important + more important than people think. No matter if you’re recovering from a sweat sesh or unwinding after a long day at work, your body NEEDS that good night’s sleep to repair itself. Going to bed early every single night is impossible, so take some time to plan your week in advance + limit yourself to just a couple late nights. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck in a cycle of never catching up on the sleep you need!
2] YOUR DIET
If your summer’s a little less structured + you’re slacking on the meal prep, this can be tricky. It’s all too easy to grab some fast food on your way to the pool, or to come home from work + crash on the couch with a bag of chips because you’re too exhausted to cook. Plan, plan, plan your meals for each week as best as you can, even if you can’t follow it perfectly! Use our recipes on the blog for some delicious + *healthy* summer snacks [or treats — like our berries + cream pops!].
3] THE WEATHER
It’s summer. It’s hot. Sometimes, you’d just rather be lying by the pool instead of going for a run in the 85 degree heat. First of all, avoid any intense physical activity outside in the extreme heat of the day. If you’re trying to work out outside, get up early to get in a sweat sesh before the temp starts to heat up, or wait until after the sun sets for some cooler weather.
You’re working loooong hours. You have a summer class that you’re struggling with. Whatever is causing you stress this summer, use that stress to FUEL your workouts! Summer causes some funky schedules + there’s not always a rhyme or reason to your day. That alone is stressful. Remember how important it is to have “me” time? Take 30 minutes to sweat it out + gather your thoughts — or not think about anything at all! Adding a workout to your day might seem like just another stressor, but it’s a fact: you NEVER regret a workout. Ever.
5] WORKOUT “BOREDOM”
You might be feeling like your workouts have been a little lackluster this summer, especially if you’re trying to squeeze in a quick sweat sesh between your job + social life. It’s hard to be motivated//excited to work out if all you’ve been doing lately is running a few miles here + there. We understand! That’s why ALL of the workouts for this summer’s #CHAARGBOOTYCAMP take less than 45 minutes. There’s going to be a good variety of workouts for ya, too [dumbbell, bodyweight, + HIIT]! It’s important to always keep your body guessing by spicing up your workouts + being willing to try new things. So skip the run on the treadmill for a workout//activity you’ve never tried before. Your body will appreciate it.
The worst [+ unfortunately most common] thing that can happen over the summer is losing your passion for exercising + eating clean. It’s okay to treat yo’self every once in a while [you ALL deserve it!]. Just always remember that if you’re ever feeling discouraged + unmotivated to *werk* towards those fit goals, you have 2500+ ladies who are by your side. Whether you’re participating in #CHAARGBOOTYCAMP or not, don’t let this summer hold you back from being the happieset + healthiest version of YOURSELF!
