Whether you’re training for a race or working towards a FitGoal, running any distance is an accomplishment. Every CHAARG girl can seek the running goals they aspire toward [+ reach them too!]. With a little help + a few tricks along the way, we can pass the finish line of any distance together — all miles of pure CHAARG strength + power! Grab a friend + lace up your kicks, because it’s time to run —
1] SET A GOAL
It’s most important to create a fitness vision + challenge for whatever distance goal you set. Write out your goal on bright paper + place it where you may need a reminder. When you wake up in the morning, remind yourself of the distance goal you set by writing it down in a fitness journal. Decorate the notebook’s cover to make goal-setting an excuse to let your creativity shine [craft time!]. Setting a goal also means understanding the true distance + journey of your run. No matter if it’s your first or fifth long-distance run, make each one a new challenge. If you’re running a longer distance, reflect on what previously challenged you + what you can improve on. It’s not about the run, but about the fitness experiences you encounter on the way to the finish line : )
2] GEAR UP
If you look great, you feel even better! Find motivation for your run through cute clothing that’s comfortable + reflects your individual style [maybe treat yourself with a #YEAROFTHEBOLT Tank ; )]. Preparation is key to accomplishing your goal from head-to-toe. Find running shoes that provide stability + comfort to avoid any possible injuries during your runs. Not looking to purchase a new fitness wardrobe? Organize + sort through your current workout clothes that clutter your closet. A fitionista detox will relieve your stress + prepare you for your next fitness challenge — in style!
3] BREAK IT DOWN
A long-distance run of many miles may seem a bit daunting or intimidating, but breaking it down into individual sections can make it more attainable [+ make you realize you can accomplish anything]. Start by breaking down each day of your fitness journey up until the run. Set realistic goals for each day. Start slow + adjust the days according to how your body feels. For example, if you’re training for your first 5K + decide to run three days a week, set pace for around a half mile every day you run + slowly increase the distance each week. Make sure to schedule rest days to let your body recover. Write down your goals + plan each day in your fit journal. Remind yourself of why you’re running every time you run [before, during + after!]. It’s a little *me-time* to break up the day, while accomplishing your fitness goal. There are many reasons to run, so find your personal motive behind each stride + mile.
4] FIND INSPIRATION
With any new fitness challenge comes struggle, but know that CHAARG girls are always there for you. Other women went through similar challenges + love-hate relationships with running [+ accomplished their goals]. Whether its scrolling through Pinterest boards or reading a fitness book, you can find inspiration to push through each mile. Run Like a Girl explains the impact of sports on women of all ages, + reminds us why we run. You are a part of the CHAARG movement — an undeniable bond of women supporting women. Use it to your advantage + seek out fellow CHAARGies to run with you. Make the challenge a team effort! Run with other women throughout the week that will empower + support you. A little inspiration can go a long way, especially with supportive friends by your side!
5] ENJOY THE CHALLENGE
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how fast you run or how long it takes to reach the finish line. What does matter is how you feel after accomplishing your FitGoal + what you learned throughout the journey. Every sweat sesh you completed was another mile + another goal accomplished in your fit journal. Expand your boundaries + look away from the gym — take advantage of the early-morning sunrises + late-night sunsets, seek out forest preserves, pathways + trails around your home to run in the fresh, open air, ++ decide where you prefer running // why it works best for you. Make every mile enjoyable inside + out! : )
In preparation for your next long distance run, remember you’re #inCHAARG of your life + health. Challenges push our bodies to the limit, but reward us later on— mentally + physically! Share your #RunCHAARG moments + goals on Instagram so other CHAARGies can share their support! CHAARG girls truly do run the world : )
