We’re all guilty of a Netflix binge every now + again, but what if you could use movie watching as a way to inspire your next workout? There are so many fitness documentaries out there that discuss running, cycling, CrossFit, boxing, lifting, ++ more that’ll have you heading straight to the gym afterwards, fully motivated + ready to sweat —
*Finding Traction* is the story of ultra marathon-runner Nikki Kimball who strives to set the fastest time for running the 273-mile Long Trail in Vermont. Running can be a difficult + challenging habit to pick up, but throughout Nikki’s journey — from her dreams of running the Long Trail as a child to the day of the race — she shows that anyone can do what they put their mind to.
THE BARKLEY MARATHONS: THE RACE THAT EATS ITS YOUNG
This documentary is one of the more unusual ones, but the determination of each runner is crazy inspiring. The Barkley Marathon is a race held in the woods of Tennessee that’s based off a prison escape route. You have to be invited in order to participate, + only 11 people have finished the race in its history — something to train for, maybe?
FITTEST ON EARTH 2015
The CrossFit Games are no joke — whoever places first is named the Fittest Man [or Woman ; )] in the World. The Games involve three challenging events every day over the course of four days, + each event is made to push the athletes to their limits. These athletes literally dedicate every single day to training + show what it takes to be known as the strongest living man + woman. If anything is going to motivate you to go to the gym, it’s this!
FROM FAT TO FINISH LINE
As CHAARGies, we all know how important it is to have a team around for support + motivation. This documentary is about twelve strangers united by a common love for running. They find each other online + decide to team up to run a 200-mile Ragnar Relay in Florida. During the film, we get to see their race journey + their weight loss journeys, proving that anything is possible when you have positive, loving friends by your side.
INSPIRED TO RIDE
CHAARG has some great cycling workouts on da blog, but these riders take it to the next level. *Inspired To Ride* follows 45 cyclists who decide to ride the Trans Am Bike Race — covering 4,233 miles + 10 states, with no support or prize money. These cyclists are considered *crazies* but they prove that if you truly love something [even if that something is cycling a crazy long distance!] you can + should go for it despite any obstacles. If you’re looking for inspiration to get up for your cardio sesh, this is it!
No matter what kind of workout you’re into, there’s a documentary out there that’ll make you want to keep going for it. Whether you’re looking for motivation to sign up for CrossFit, pump air in your bike tires, or lace up your sneakers + go for a run, these documentaries will inspire you to reach your goals in no time. : )
