Whenever we see a cute animal picture online, a smile usually creeps onto our faces + [if we can] we turn to find our own pet. Not only are animals capable of making us smile, they also help our health in many ways —
1] REDUCES RISK OF ASTHMA + ALLERGIES
Most people think that owning a pet could cause more allergic reactions, but that’s actually a myth! Being around animals from a young age can help the body to create a stronger immune system that fights off allergies + reduces the risk of asthma.
2] IMPROVED HEART HEALTH
Your heart is so, so important + owning a pet helps keep it healthy! Pet owners tend to have lower blood pressure + cholesterol, which reduces the risk of heart attacks. A study has also shown that people who had heart attacks + own a pet have quicker recovery rates than those who don’t. Pets, especially dogs, are a great workout partner — they’ll love going outdoors with you this summer ; )
3] *CUDDLE CHEMICAL*
Cuddling with an animal is already an amazing experience + as an added bonus, when cuddling with a pet, the chemical oxytocin— known as the *cuddle chemical*– is released + creates a calming // soothing effect. It is also what creates such a loving bond between an owner + her pet. So the next time you’re cuddling with your cute creature, thank the chemicals in your body for that relaxing, tender moment!
4] STRESS RELIEVER
Having a pet can help to lessen the amount of stress in an owner’s life. Since pets have such a calming effect, being around them reduces both physical + mental stress. Animals help to put a smile on our faces + forget about our worries for a moment, but they also affect our heart rates during stressful times. Whenever you feel stressed + your heart starts beating a bit too fast– however, being around an animal can lower your heart rate + help you destress for a moment.
5] MOOD BOOSTER
Having a pet can also boost your entire mood in general– it takes only 15-30 minutes with a pet to feel your mood improving. That’s a small part of your day for a little bit of happiness + who’s mood wouldn’t improve around an animal’s cute little face?
While many of us are animal lovers who would like to own a pet, sometimes we or a family member are allergic to animals + can’t have pets around! If you aren’t able to own a pet, there’s plenty of alternatives to enjoy the benefits of animals without putting anyone at risk for allergic reactions. Consider becoming a dog walker // pet sitter or volunteering at your local animal shelter!
They can be a lot of work, but pets have a way of making us happy like nothing else can. So grab your favorite furry face + cuddle until your heart’s content! Share the love + snap an adorable selfie to share with your CHAARG girls on Instagram. : )
