The holiday season tends to bring up a lot [++ we mean a lot] of questions from family + friends — “How’s school going? When do you graduate? Are you dating anyone? What do you want to do with your life?” The list goes on + on. But, one of the most common questions we are asked is also one we tend to not put much thought into — “What are you thankful for?”
In the past, you’ve likely immediately answered this question with, “My parents, friends, family,” etc. Of course these aspects of life are important, but this year, we challenge you to answer in a different way + give thanks to the most important part of your life — YOU. Whether you recognize it or not, you have so much to be grateful for about yourself. We’ll give you a head start on the reasons why…
1] You wake up every morning ready to better yourself.
2] You accept challenges + rise to meet them.
3] You [successfully] carry yourself through the good + bad.
4] You honor your body’s needs.
5] You inspire others.
6] You take time for yourself.
7] You fuel your body with #EEEEEATS that make it feel strong.
8] But you never forget to #TreatYourself.
9] You never give up on yourself.
10] You laugh at yourself.
11] You recognize + accept when to seek help.
12] You try new things, even if they break from your comfort zone.
13] You surround yourself with people who inspire + empower you.
14] You’re there to lift others up when they can’t see their beauty.
15] You live for yourself + do not settle for someone else’s opinion.
16] You are kind + giving + don’t expect something in return.
17] You push yourself to exceed your goals + expectations.
18] But you know that finishing is more important than perfection.
19] You accept that you’re still [+ always will be] on a personal journey.
20] But know that regardless of where you are in this moment, you are enough.
Equally, if not more important, is to remember to be thankful for [+ take pride in] the things that make you uniquely you. We challenge you to take a few minutes to yourself + really think about what you value about yourself. They might not be rare or *unique*, but they’re qualities that you value about yourself + things that you should always be thankful for. Here are a few of ours to get you started ; ) —
1] I’m an open-minded person.
2] I’m starting to become more daring + becoming more open to trying new things [ESPECIALLY new foods].
3] I actively try to stay engaged + informed on current events.
4] I’m becoming a pretty decent cook [at least I think so].
5] I have a good sense of humor [again, at least I think so ; )].
1] I make sure my loved ones know how much I love + care for them.
2] I have taken several steps to better myself this year [seeing an eating psych, practicing yoga, writing more, etc.].
3] I am comfortable with being alone + independent.
4] I always manage to see the positive in every situation.
5] I work hard + play harder!
Don’t be limited by a number, but try to think of *at least* five. Receiving compliments typically makes us feel good, but they don’t always need to come from other people — be kind to yourself, too.
++ Never forget: We are all thankful for *YOU* : )
