I just finished Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. First piece of advice for ya: pick up the book now. Yes, it’s that good. For those of you unfamiliar with the book, it’s a collection of advice columns from The Rumpus… there’s SO MUCH wonderful advice on love + life. Below are my 15 favs…
] Practice the pause.
] Notice your surroundings.
] Be authentic.
] Know that we are all hungry to be loved — feed others, but also feed yourself.
] We have to be whole people to find whole love.
] Have courage [even if that means faking it ’till you make it — dance with the fear].
] Tell people what your love for them means to you.
] Trust yourself.
] Most of us spend our lives trying to alter our body, hide it, prettify it, make it what it isn’t, or conceal it for what it is. But what if we didn’t do that? We must move from loathing to loving our skin.
] You don’t have to move fast — you can mark your progress breath by breath.
] Remember to breathe, especially where it hurts.
] We both know + cannot possibly know what it is we’ve yet to make manifest in our lives.
] We get to decide who it is we allow to influence us.
] Life is long + people both change ++ remain the same… ++ every last one of us will need to eff up + be forgiven — we’re all just walking + walking, trying to find our way up roads that lead us to the mountaintop.
] Believe that the fairytale is true.
Cheers to livin’ the good life ++ being our most authentic selves,
