As the air starts to get colder, your skin begins to get dryer. No matter how much you moisturize, sometimes you still struggle with painfully dry skin. Luckily, there are other ways to combat dryness + be #inCHAARG of your skin. We’ve put together a round up of our best skin care tips, paired with our favorite products from Dr.Roebucks — all of which are made with minimal ingredients for maximum results + free from harmful fillers + chemicals!
1] DRINK WATER
There’s no simpler solution to preventing dry skin than drinking more water. Drinking water hydrates your skin + makes it less likely to dry out. Try drinking a gallon of water a day — you’ll be amazed at all the benefits!
2] AVOID HARSH CLEANSERS
Have you ever used a face wash that left your skin feeling *tight* or dry after washing? Cleansers with harsh chemicals can strip out all of the natural oils from your skin which sounds great, but in reality your skin will produce even more oil to overcompensate — which can lead to breakouts [yikes!]. Gentle cleansers, like Cleanse remove excess oil while hydrating your skin!
3] EAT WELL
Eating the right foods has proven to be great for our health, energy, + skin. Choose foods such as fruits + vegetables to give yourself the proper nutrients + vitamins you need. Don’t feel bad about ordering that extra guac — it’s great for your skin ; ) By treating your body right + eating well, your skin will start shining in no time!
4] MOISTURIZE AFTER SHOWERING
Do you ever experience that irritating, dry feeling after you get out of the shower? That’s not a coincidence — showering causes your skin to be stripped of its natural oils + leads to skin dehydration + irritation. As soon as you get out of the shower, apply moisturizer to hydrate your skin. We recommend a moisturizer without added fragrances//perfumes [especially if you have sensitive skin!]. Out favorite is Pure Body — it’s ultra rich formula is perfect for dry, winter skin!
5] LIMIT HOT SHOWERS
Showering in general causes dry skin, but you can limit the damage by showering in warm or cold water rather than hot water. Eve more than a regular shower, hot water strips your skin of its natural oils, leading to worse damage + dryness. As the temps start to drop, we know how tempting it is to take a hot shower, but try to remember it will only dry out your skin more!
6] EXFOLIATE WISELY
If your skin is already severly dry, cracked, or irritated in any way — step away from the exfoliants! Those rough particles in the exfoliant product will further damage irritated skin. If you skin isn’t sensitive or inflamed, make sure to pick an scrub filled with healing, natural ingredients [not harsh chemicals — just read the label : )] + limit exfoliating to only a couple times a week or less. Our favorite is Polish — it removes dead skin + leaves your face revitalized!
7] DIY FACE MASKS
Making your own face masks not only saves you money, but it’s also better for your skin. There are many different kinds of DIY face masks you can make, but some of our faves to keep your face shining are Coconut Oil + Honey, Honey + Cinnamon, ++ Greek Yogurt + Honey.
8] SAVE YOUR FACE
Nothing is harsher on fragile skin than the harsh winter winds! The freezing, dry air can suck the moisture out of your face in an instant. The best way to combat it is to apply a soothing moisturizer speicifically for your face [bonus points if it contains SPF!]. Our favorites are Pure + Face for the natural formulas that won’t make you feel greasy.
9] GO NATURAL
Makeup dries out skin, especially when it’s on every day. Limit how often you wear makeup + you’ll notice how hydrated + clear your skin will start to become. We know it can sometimes be hard to feel confident without wearing makeup, but you’re all beautiful no matter what, so let your true self shine + opt to go au naturel — your skin will be thanking you later!
10] PROTECT YOUR LIPS
Drinking water will help to prevent getting chapped lips, but water alone isn’t enough — especially if you’ll be out in the sun or snow. Your lips need a moisturizer too! Our fav is Lips — it’s a blend of beeswax + essential oils that keep your lips soft.
Taking care of your body includes taking care of your skin, so try to make it a priority this winter. We know it can get busy this time of the year with finals + the holidays approaching, but it’s important to take CHAARG + treat your body right : )
