While #runCHAARG may be nearing an end, it doesn’t mean you should hang up your running shoes. The goal of #runCHAARG is to get your feet moving in the right direction + your job is to keep them moving.
In an effort to get you out the door on the cold days + the sleepy days, we’ve rounded up spring’s best races. They’re an opportunity to stay motivated, add a race shirt to your collection + [best of all] run alongside the nation’s best. + no, we’re not talking about elite marathoners or Olympic hopefuls — we’re talking about CHAARG girls.
Each of these races offers varying distances, so as you continue to grow as a runner, you can continue to push yourself to the next level. To make this list *even* better, we picked races in varying locations, so you can run alongside a CHAARG girl from BC in one race + LSU in another.
Now get out your planner + write down these races! Who wants to run them all? ; )
DIRTY GIRL MUD RUN
5K mud run + obstacle course || Multiple locations + dates
Get a little dirty this spring! The women’s only mud run happens in cities across the U.S., upping the chance there’s a race near your CHAARG chapter. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t travel somewhere new! Plan a CHAARG road trip to visit + get muddy with girls from a CHAARG chapter a few states over. [fun fact=this was the very first race a few CHAARG girls did together back in 2012!]
5K || Multiple dates + locations
You may have seen bursts of color coating your Facebook//Insta//Twitter timeline this year with more + more girls taking part in a local Color Run. But don’t think this race is done yet. The folks in charge of The Color Run just announced the Shine Tour, which will take place this year. Now, in addition to being dusted with colorful powder throughout the course, you’ll leave with a little extra sparkle. That’s right. We’re talking glitter!
10K, 5K + 1 mile || Baton Rouge, LA || February 21
If you’ve been dying to celebrate Mardi Gras in Louisiana, but haven’t had the chance to make the trip, this is the race for you. The Mardi Gras Mambo follows Louisiana’s massive Mardi Gras celebration on Feb. 17 but doesn’t skimp on any of the carnival spirit + fun.
Half Marathon + 5K || Brooklyn, NY || March 29
The Ladies First! race directors know girls run the world, so while they do allow men to run the race, men are not eligible for awards. This means it’s all up to you, ladies! Tack on a trip to NYC while you’re there for a girls’ weekend you won’t soon forget.
Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K || Multiple dates + locations
There are many locations of the Rock n Roll Marathon, but our top two picks are San Diego [burritos + warm weather, yes please] + Nashville — Taylor Swift may have traded in her country roots for a pop vibe, but Nashville still has plenty going on to keep a CHAARG girl busy. As part of the Rock n Roll Marathon Series, runners will run alongside live local bands at every mile! Once you cross the finish line, you can make your way over to a free post-race concert w/ a music star yet to be announced!
Half Marathon + Relay || Leesburg, VA || May 30
There’s a reason they call it a “destination race.” The Virginia Wine Country half and relay has one of the most scenic courses around. You’ll pass vineyards, farms + ranches all on your way to the post-race Wine & Music Festival. But if that isn’t enough to win you over, the race’s midpoint features a water AND wine stop.
Half Marathon, 10K || Annapolis, MD || May 30
The Zooma Women’s Series hosts races across the U.S., but the Annapolis race won us over almost immediately. The race starts at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and loops around the Maryland State House + Naval Academy before opening to an out-and-back course alongside the Chesapeake Bay. It’s also the perfect opportunity to visit the UMD CHAARG girls. ; )
Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, 10K + 5K || Cincinnati, OH || May 2-3
This race has been a favorite of CHAARG girls for a number of years + now it’s time for you to get in on the action. Running the Pig gets you a solid swag bag + the chance to cross the “Finish Swine” – yep, that’s really what it’s called – to collect your piggy medal.
8K || Chicago || March 29
Who doesn’t want to celebrate St. Patty’s day again by running in a race ; ). Not to mention, it’s in Chicago — deep dish pizza after the race is a must! The VirtCHAARG girls are takin’ on this race + we would love to see other familiar faces! [++ yes, we will be decked out in green like these people below — #getexcited].
15K || Toronto || June 14
If you’ve been a long-time lover of #runCHAARG, you’ll know 12 lucky CHAARG girls ran the Nike Women’s Series in D.C. last April. This year, Nike is doing it again, but in one of the world’s most ethnically diverse cities: TORONTO! Random draw for the race opens March 9, so be sure to mark your calendars. Until then, check out Renee Klenke’s photos from last year’s race. We’re not kidding when we say they’re absolutely incredible.
So text a #CHAARG girl, post on the chapter Facebook page + commit to one – or all – of these spring races. Let us know what race you’ll be running on insta so we can plan a #CHAARGMeetup around it! Cannot wait to see plenty of CHAARG tanks at the starting line! : )
