Let’s face it: New Year’s resolutions can be scary. Whether you’re trying to get in better shape, reorganize your work//school life, or simply looking to refresh + #reCHAARG after a *long* 2015, coming up with + sticking to a new lifestyle through extreme goals can be straight-up daunting — how + why are we supposed to become completely new [+ *better*] individuals at the flip of a switch?
This year, we are trading *resolutions* for *personal themes* ++ with that, let’s toss out those overwhelming + unachievable to-do lists for smaller, easier tasks that we can all accomplish. Choose one, choose many, + don’t worry if they don’t all become a part of your daily routine. We promise — just taking these small steps in the effort to become your best self will set the right tone + make 2016 our best year yet!
1] DRINK A GLASS OF WATER RIGHT WHEN YOU WAKE UP!
Stop, drop + chug at least 8oz to rehydrate your body after a long night’s sleep. You’ll thank yourself later ; )
2] ACTUALLY TRY KEEPING A FOOD JOURNAL FOR ONE WEEK.
Even if you don’t think this is your *thing*, just give it 7 days + learn exactly how you’ve been feeding your body!
3] FLOSS DAILY.
So, so incredibly easy, so why are we skipping out on this? [we’re guilty, too ; )]
4] GO OUTSIDE FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES PER DAY.
[Beyond your typical commute // outdoor time, that is; )]. Knock out your #sweatsesh at a local park // running route! ++ if you’re stuck inside all day, make the conscious effort to breathe in fresh air by taking a walk around the block // to your closest coffee shop. We know, winter is here at last. Use that walk as the perfect excuse to wear that adorable hat you got for Christmas!
5] READ MORE.
We’re with ya there — we tend to put our books down when life gets a lil’ crazy. Choose to re-engage with something besides your iPhone // iPad // computer + pick out a book you’ve been dying to read. Here are some of our recent favorites!
6] FIND YOUR FIT — YOUR SPORTS BRA FIT.
Now is the time to go through your sports bras + ditch those unsupportive ones you’ve been holding onto for too long! If you haven’t found that perfect fit yet, what are you waiting for? : ) Be good to yourself + head over to the Victoria Secret Sport section for a fitting.
We know what you’re thinking… but how? Start by setting a *screen-free* time zone [cellphones // laptops // tablets // etc.] during your daily schedule. Then, actually turn off [yes, shut down!] your electronics before you go to bed. It’s so good for your devices + even better for yourself. ++ yes, you might have to invest in a real alarm clock! ; )
8] PACK YOUR LUNCH.
More so for the recent college grad, but also for all of us without the convenience of a nearby dining hall — brown bag it! Even if you’ve recently fallen into a daily routine of buying one of your meals [lunch // dinner, we know you need your Sbux in the AM ; )], there’s always the opportunity to change this up. The benefits are obvious [saving money // eating healthier], so start small, say by packing your lunch two days a week. If you find this to be a challenge — it’s totally worth it!
9] WASH YOUR FACE.
After a late night of cranking out work // hanging out with friends, it can be too easy to just brush your teeth + hop in bed. Take the few extra minutes to wash your face + remove *ALL* of your makeup. ++ if this is already your thing [you go, girl!], take it one step further + start using a moisturizing night cream. Especially during these winter months, your skin will thank you!
10] WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR.
Every day, jot something down [a person // special moment // ANYTHING] that you are thankful for in your calendar // planner [here’s your excuse to start a gratitude journal ; )]. There’s no need to overcomplicate this — by simply writing down a few lines, you’ll teach yourself to always look for the good in each day. ++ then, who knows? This daily practice can easily transition over to meditation, yoga, + more frequent journaling.
