With so many fitness wearables on the market + new ones hitting the shelves so frequently, window shopping as a FITionista definitely isn’t boring ; ). But now that the holidays have come + gone, you might have ended up on someone’s *nice list*, earning yourself a wearable of your own!
So you ended up with a bright + shiny new wearable — what now? These trackers + the apps they work with have a lot of options to keep you on top of your health + fitness game, but figuring out the right place to begin can be a bit daunting — not to worry, we’ve got you covered!
1] WEAR IT CONSISTENTLY
One of the big benefits of these trackers is their ability to measure your progress over time. The longer + more regularly you use your tracker, the more data it has on your lifestyle so you can really get to know your habits. Use it all day, ‘erryday to see measurable benefits!
If you’re not using your wearable to track sleep, keep your it near your bed to remind you to put it on each morning. Your wearable is only going to help you stay #inCHAARG if you actually use it, so don’t leave it to collect dust ; ).
2] KNOW YOUR RESOURCES
You have the wearable, but how do you really use it? Make sure you download the app associated with your tracker. This helps keep your data in one convenient place so you can access it on the go + stay aware of your actions throughout the day.
++ Don’t forget to check out the tracking options available on your computer. Wearables like FitBit // Polar watches have even more features for your laptop // desktop. They aren’t quite as *portable*, but you have more options for viewing your data over time to track your progress.
3] TRACK *ALL THE THINGS*
When we think of wearables, we usually think of using them to monitor steps + heart rate throughout the day, but their benefits don’t stop there. They’re also very helpful in keeping track of distance, specific workouts [runs//bike rides//etc.], calories consumed + burned, water intake throughout the day, + sleep quality. This may seem like a ton to stay on top of, but these wearables pack a huge amount of data into a small package. Though you may have to enter some of the data yourself, make sure you’re taking advantage of all your device can tell you — so it can give you the best picture of your health + the progress you make over time!
4] CONNECT WITH FRIENDS
Like other aspects of your fitness journey, staying active with your wearable is much easier if you treat it like a social network + connect with friends who use the same one. Not only can you cheer each other on + support your friends’ progress, but you can also *incentivize* your movements by adding a little competition to your week.
One of my favorite ways to use my tracker is to organize a competition between my friends to keep us all movin’ throughout the week // weekend [or both! : )]. If you’re using FitBit, you can get a group of up to 10 friends to compete for the most steps over a day // week // weekend [++ you have plenty of CHAARG girls to choose from ; )]. If bragging rights aren’t enough, you could always add a prize for winner to really keep you motivated ; )
When you first receive // purchase a wearable, the most important advice anyone can give is that you actually use it. These tools will benefit you most if you use it consistently + let it create a large scale picture of your health. Whether it’s a FitBit // Nike Fuel Band // AppleWatch or whatever the next craze in fitness may be, let this be a valuable tool rather than just a fancy accessory!
